What to know

Why this return is a major Tokyo travel event

Tokyo Bay Grand Fireworks Festival was last held in 2015. Minato City says the 2026 revival marks an 11-year return and is planned as a joint Chuo City and Minato City 80th-anniversary event. Approximately 12,000 fireworks are scheduled over the bay, visible from a network of controlled waterfront venues rather than one open riverbank.

The official date is Saturday, October 24, 2026. Fireworks are scheduled from 17:30 to 19:00. Gates and local access controls vary by venue, so 17:30 is not a safe arrival target. Use the admission time on your ticket, allow for searches and queues, and be inside the correct area well before launch.

What to know

The most important rule: every official viewing area needs a ticket

This is a fully ticketed festival. The organizer says people without tickets cannot enter any venue, there is no free official viewing area, stopping to watch on nearby sidewalks is prohibited and no same-day tickets will be sold. Do not travel to Tokyo Bay expecting to find an informal standing area after gates close.

Tickets are venue-specific. A ticket for one Toyosu or Ariake section does not create access to another section. Save the venue name, entrance map and ticket display before leaving reliable internet. If your group buys separately, confirm that every person has the same venue and seat type before payment.

Ticket prices, sale deadline and sellout conditions

General first-come sales through Ticket Pia opened September 9 at 10:00. The organizer publishes a headline closing time of October 24 at 10:00, but payment and ticket-delivery method deadlines can be earlier. Sales also close when inventory is exhausted. Availability changes continuously, so this article does not claim that a particular block remains on sale after the September 26 review.

General-sale choices published by the organizer include ¥5,000 seats at Toyosu Park and selected Toyosu Gururi Park areas; ¥7,500 admission at Ariake Seaside Park; and ¥10,000 chair or grass-area options in parts of Toyosu Gururi Park and Ariake North Greenway. Ticketing fees are extra. Some city-resident priority allocations existed earlier; only remaining inventory opened to the general sale should be treated as bookable by other visitors.

Purchasers cannot cancel or change a ticket after purchase. If organizers cancel before the fireworks begin, the ticket face value is refundable under the published process, but service and delivery fees are not. If the display begins and is then stopped, no refund is promised. Unauthorized resale is prohibited; use only the official seller and any organizer-approved procedure.

Choose the venue first, then the train station

The official map divides the waterfront into six areas and 23 venues. For general-sale Toyosu Park, use Tokyo Metro Yurakucho Line Toyosu Station or Yurikamome Toyosu Station. Toyosu Gururi Park Areas 1, 3 and 4 list Toyosu and Shin-Toyosu as the practical rail gateways. Area 2 lists Toyosu and Shijo-mae. Check the numbered area carefully because the park is long and walking from the wrong end can take substantial time in controlled crowds.

For Ariake North Greenway and Ariake Seaside Park, the organizer lists Rinkai Line Kokusai-tenjijo Station and Yurikamome Ariake-tennis-no-mori Station. Do not assume Odaiba or Ariake stations are interchangeable during the exit surge. Pick a post-event route in advance, reload the IC card before entry and expect station queuing after 19:00.

The festival provides no visitor car park or bicycle park. Road closures and crowd controls make taxi pickup near the venue unreliable. Large luggage should be stored before travel; the reviewed visitor pages did not announce an event-wide baggage counter.

What to know

Chair seats, grass areas and blocked-view risk

A chair-labelled ticket includes the seat arrangement specified by the organizer. In assigned grass or area seating, the published allowance is 0.8 square metres per person and no ground sheet is supplied. Bring a compact sheet only if your venue rules permit it, keep it within the marked allocation and avoid equipment that blocks a neighboring view.

The official venue page warns that trees, structures, slopes and other features can partially block the display. A blocked or restricted view does not create an exchange or refund right. Check the venue diagram before paying, especially if photography is your priority. Tripods, large equipment and aisle use must follow the ticket and security rules; never place gear in evacuation space.

Traffic restrictions and the exit plan

The official September 17 traffic map schedules broad controls on October 24, generally from about 15:00 to 21:00. It covers roads around Harumi, Toyosu, Ariake and Odaiba, parts of the Shutoko 10 Harumi Route and 11 Daiba Route, and pedestrian routes including Harumi Bridge, Toyosu Bridge and Rainbow Bridge. Exact start and release times can change with police and crowd conditions.

Do not use a waterfront bridge as a backup viewing plan: pedestrian restrictions and the no-sidewalk-viewing rule are designed to keep those routes moving and safe. After the finale, remain in your assigned area until staff release your section, follow the signed station flow and consider an indoor wait away from the gate before joining the peak platform queue.

Rain, severe weather and refunds

Minato City states that the festival is cancelled in severe weather and will not be postponed. A normal rain shower does not automatically tell you whether the event will proceed. Check the official homepage on October 24 rather than relying on a previous Tokyo fireworks policy or an unofficial social post.

Carry a compact raincoat because umbrellas can block views and become hazardous in dense seating. Protect the ticket and phone, follow evacuation instructions immediately and do not wait on a closed bridge or roadway for an announcement. If cancellation occurs, use the official refund notice and original payment method; remember that the published policy excludes ticketing fees and gives no refund after the display has begun.

What to verify before leaving your accommodation

Confirm the festival status, venue number, entrance time, Ticket Pia display or printed ticket, nearest station, prohibited items and return route. Download the English traffic-control map and take a screenshot of the entrance. Marine-viewing flag sales have closed, so a sightseeing boat or private cruise should not be treated as official access unless it separately proves authorization for this event.
