Formal name, date, time and venue
The formal event is the 95th Tsuchiura All Japan Fireworks Competition. It is scheduled for Saturday, November 7, 2026 from 17:30 to 20:00 along the Sakuragawa riverbank downstream of Gakuen Bridge in Tsuchiura City, Ibaraki Prefecture. The official prefectural tourism listing describes a competition of approximately 20,000 fireworks.
This is a judged fireworks competition rather than a short local display. The organizer's detailed 2026 competition program was still marked as being prepared when checked on September 22, so exact launch order, individual pyrotechnician entries and interval timing should remain unannounced in an itinerary until the official program appears.
The event proceeds in ordinary rain. Severe weather postpones it to Saturday, November 14. If neither date can be used, the competition is canceled. Recheck the same-day organizer notice and JMA information before boarding a long-distance train.
What to know
Paid seats, prices and the official resale window
The original general paid-seat lottery ran from August 12 through September 10 and is closed. The practical remaining official route is the resale lottery. Buyer applications open Sunday, September 27 at 10:00 and close Friday, October 2 at 23:59. Results are scheduled for Monday, October 5 at 18:00. Availability depends entirely on tickets returned by successful buyers, so an application does not guarantee a seat.
Published prices are ¥26,000 for a full masu box for up to five people, ¥13,000 for a half masu box for two, ¥12,000 per person for tiered seating, ¥80,000 for a four-person table, and ¥6,000, ¥5,000 or ¥4,000 per person for chair areas A, B or C. Use the organizer-linked Pia page only; there is no official counter sale.
Admission to the paid area requires one physical ticket per person. Tickets are shipped, with a ¥990 delivery charge, and the organizer warns that address errors, forwarding or delivery-time requests may not be accommodated. The delivery charge is not refunded even if the event is ultimately canceled. Read the current resale page before payment because returned inventory, seat category and fees can change.
What to know
No paid ticket: do not choose a viewing spot yet
The organizer has a dedicated 2026 page for visitors without paid seats, but it was still marked as being prepared on September 22. That means no current official free-viewing location, opening time, capacity rule or guaranteed sightline can yet be stated. A visible river on a map is not permission to stand on private land, a road shoulder, bridge approach or closed bank.
Wait for the newly dated organizer guidance before choosing an unticketed plan. Police and staff may close areas for launch safety, emergency access, crowd capacity or traffic management. Do not buy an unofficial promise of a guaranteed free view, and do not copy a viewing location from an earlier edition without checking its 2026 status.
The paid area is also operationally specific: the organizer says food and drink sales are not planned inside it. Buy what you need before entry, carry out waste and follow the controlled block-by-block exit after the display rather than pushing toward the station immediately.

Tsuchiura Station, walking route and shuttle bus
JR Jōban Line Tsuchiura Station is the nearest practical rail gateway. The organizer describes the venue as about 2.5 kilometers, or roughly 30 minutes on foot, from the station in ordinary conditions. Crowd controls can make the return slower, so treat that as orientation rather than a festival-night guarantee.
The official shuttle is scheduled from Tsuchiura Station East Exit to the Gakuen Bridge side of the venue from 15:00 to 17:30, then from the venue back to the station from 18:30 to 21:30. The one-way fare is ¥400 for an adult and ¥200 for a child, IC cards are accepted, and the normal ride is about ten minutes. The organizer warns that queues can exceed 30 minutes. The outbound last bus is 17:30, and sales stop after that departure.
After the fireworks, Tsuchiura Station may control entry. Holding a limited-express ticket does not give priority through a crowd-control line. Reserve a realistic return, save the later alternatives and let the first surge pass if staff direct you to wait. Carrying a large suitcase through the shuttle queue and controlled station is poor planning; leave luggage at accommodation or a confirmed facility.

Parking lottery and traffic restrictions
Official visitor parking is reservation-only through a lottery. The first application window runs September 18 at 10:00 through September 25 at 23:59, with results on September 30 at 18:00. A second lottery is scheduled for October 2 at 10:00 through October 7 at 23:59 only if spaces remain. Standard lots cost ¥3,000 plus a ¥300 fee; P11 costs ¥2,000 plus a ¥200 fee. Payment is by credit card and the published use window is 13:00–22:00.
A parking application is not a traffic shortcut. The final 2026 traffic-control map was still marked as being prepared on September 22, and roads around the venue can close or become one-way. Do not select an unreserved lot, roadside space or shop parking from a normal map and assume it will be usable after controls begin.
Rail is the safer default for most international visitors. If driving is unavoidable, wait for the final road map, save the assigned lot and approach route offline, and leave enough time to reach the car before the 22:00 published parking close without crossing a prohibited area.
What to know
Rain, postponement, cancellation and refunds
Ordinary rain does not by itself cancel the event. If severe weather prevents November 7, the planned fallback is November 14 and the same paid ticket remains valid. The organizer can also interrupt or change the competition under its operational standards.
There is no compensation simply because the event is postponed, and a cancellation after the display has started does not create an automatic refund. If the competition is ultimately not held, follow the organizer's published refund procedure for eligible ticket value; the separate delivery charge is not refunded. Travel and accommodation cancellation costs remain the visitor's responsibility unless the seller's own terms say otherwise.
Umbrellas are prohibited while watching because they block views and create crowd hazards. Bring a compact raincoat, a waterproof phone pouch and shoes with grip. Check the organizer and JMA again before leaving, including the November 14 date if the first event day is lost.
What to know
Photography, sparks and the final visit checklist
Do not stand to photograph from a seated area, and do not raise a tripod above the head height of seated spectators. Keep equipment inside your allocated space and follow any block-specific instruction. Drones are prohibited around the venue unless the organizer has explicitly authorized the operation.
Firework debris or embers can fall. The organizer recommends precautions such as a hat and glasses, and all staff instructions take priority over a camera position. Avoid touching fragments until they are clearly cool and safe, and tell staff about any injury or active ember.
