The defining 2026 change: there is no Nagoya Festival Parade

The organizer has confirmed that the usual Nagoya Festival Parade will not take place in 2026. That means visitors should not plan a roadside position for the Three Heroes—Oda Nobunaga, Toyotomi Hideyoshi and Tokugawa Ieyasu—or expect the customary historical procession route through central Nagoya. Public recruitment for the Three Heroes is also not being held.

The reason is a schedule overlap with the torch relay and opening ceremony for the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Para Games. The festival notice says the changes are intended to manage traffic and public safety. The Oasis 21 event venue is likewise omitted in 2026.

Search results, videos and maps from earlier editions can therefore be actively misleading. Do not use a previous parade time, road route, viewing point or Oasis 21 schedule as a 2026 plan. The organizer says the Hisaya Odori Park program will include special projects that carry elements of the traditional festival procession, but those projects are not a substitute parade and their final details remain to be published.

Confirmed dates, main venue and operating hours

The festival is confirmed for Saturday, October 17 and Sunday, October 18, 2026. Its principal event area is Hisaya Odori Park in central Nagoya, specifically the Edion Hisaya Plaza and Angel Plaza area. The organizer describes stages, booths and special cultural programming, but had not announced the final 2026 daily opening hours, stage timetable, performer list or booth map as of September 9.

The official English site says 2026 information will be added sequentially from mid-September and that the English pamphlet is expected around early October. A page that still shows a 2025 leaflet is historical reference only. Check the publication year before saving a map or timetable.

Hisaya Odori Park events are generally planned to proceed in rain, but the organizer may change or cancel individual programs and may cancel the venue in severe weather. No universal decision time has been published for 2026, so check the dated homepage notice and official social account on the morning of your visit.

Admission, tickets, reservations and sellout conditions

Admission to the Hisaya Odori Park festival venue is free. Food, drinks, merchandise and some experiences can cost extra. No festival-wide spectator ticket, mandatory reservation, advance-booking deadline or public reserved-seat sale was announced in the reviewed 2026 material.

Because there is no public ticket inventory, the organizer has not published a spectator-ticket sellout condition. A specific workshop, product or commercial tour added later may have its own price, booking window and capacity; use only the terms on its dated official booking page.

The FAQ identifies a limited first-come wheelchair viewing space at the Edion Hisaya Hiroba stage. That is a capacity condition rather than a purchasable ticket, and availability is not guaranteed. Travelers who need step-free access or seating should contact the organizer after the final stage layout is released.

Nagoya Castle is free on both festival days

Nagoya Castle is confirmed as a festival venue with free admission on October 17 and 18. The published facility information lists normal opening from 09:00 to 16:30, with last admission to Honmaru Palace and the Nishinomaru Okura Museum at 16:00. The castle keep remains closed to visitors, so free entry does not mean access inside the keep.

The Nagoya Castle Autumn Festival runs from September 19 through November 23, overlapping the Nagoya Festival weekend. The organizer had not yet posted a final event-by-event October 17–18 castle schedule. Check the castle venue page before deciding which day or time to combine with Hisaya Odori Park.

The Toyotomi Hideyoshi and Kiyomasa Memorial Museum is also listed for free admission on both days, 09:00–17:00 with last entry at 16:30. Other municipal attractions have different free or discounted dates and conditions, many applying only on October 18. Facility parking is not made free by the promotion; read the current list for the exact place you plan to visit.

Access from Nagoya Station and between venues

For Hisaya Odori Park, the official FAQ lists Sakae Station on the Higashiyama and Meijo subway lines, Sakaemachi Station on the Meitetsu Seto Line, and Yabacho Station on the Meijo Line. From Nagoya Station, the straightforward rail choice is the Higashiyama Line to Sakae. Choose your exit only after the 2026 venue map is published because Edion Hisaya Plaza and Angel Plaza are in different parts of the park corridor.

Nagoya Castle is about a five-minute normal walk from Nagoyajo Station Exit 7 on the Meijo Line. Traveling between Sakae and Nagoyajo is a short subway trip, but platform, exit and entry queues can lengthen the transfer on a festival weekend.

The official free-facility page places the Toyotomi Hideyoshi and Kiyomasa Memorial Museum about ten minutes north of Nakamura Koen Station Exit 3 on the Higashiyama Line. It is west of Nagoya Station and is not beside Hisaya Odori Park or the castle, so treat it as a separate stop rather than an automatic add-on.

Rain, crowds, traffic and practical facilities

The Hisaya Odori Park and Nagoya Castle programs are described as rain-or-shine, with cancellation possible in severe weather and individual events subject to change. A single published rule for strong wind, lightning, postponement, refunds or an exact announcement time was not available as of September 9. Paid vendors or experiences can have separate terms.

There is no 2026 parade route, so do not expect the usual parade road closures. However, the Asian Para Games torch relay and opening ceremony overlap the weekend, and temporary traffic or transit controls can still be announced. Recheck the festival, city and transport operator on the day rather than assuming ordinary central-Nagoya conditions.

The organizer provides no dedicated festival car park or bicycle park and asks visitors to use public transport; bicycles may not be ridden inside the venue. The current FAQ lists three toilets in the park event area: one multipurpose toilet at Sakae Plaza and two toilets at Edion Hisaya Plaza, with none at Angel Plaza. Keep a second public-facility option in your route during peak periods.

Photography and respectful viewing

No complete 2026 rule for tripods, flash, commercial shoots, drones or live streaming was published in the reviewed festival pages. Follow each stage and booth sign, keep aisles and wheelchair space clear, and ask before closely photographing a performer, artisan or child.

Do not create a false parade scene for social media by blocking paths or asking costumed participants to move into the roadway. The special 2026 projects may reference historical processions, but visitors should describe what they actually saw and should not label an older image as the 2026 Three Heroes parade.
