Do this now

Follow these steps in order.

  1. 01

The 2026 event has ended. Use this page only as an archive and check the organizer before planning around a future edition.

  2. 02

Use rail and walk from Sannomiya or Kyukyoryuchi-Daimarumae. There is no event parking, and several streets, one underground car park and two city-bus stops are affected.

  3. 03

If the October 4 sky-lantern activity is essential, open the organizer-linked application now and confirm the deadline, fee, age rules, capacity and acceptance status before building a trip around it.

  4. 04

Check the official program, detailed traffic map and weather announcement again before departure because times can change and the final restriction map is still pending.

  5. 05

For the 19:45 waterfront drone show, reach TOTTEI well before the evening crowd and keep a flexible return rather than attaching a tight train or Shinkansen connection to the 20:00 finish.

What to know

Formal name, dates, hours and three-area layout

The formal event is KOBE AUTUMN FESTIVAL 2026: Mirai e Susumu Kobe, or 'Kobe moving toward the future.' It is scheduled for Saturday, October 3 and Sunday, October 4, 2026. The organizer gives headline hours of 10:00–20:00 on both days and warns that operating times can change.

This is not a single fenced festival ground. The official plan links three broad areas: Sannomiya Chuo-dori, Kyomachi-suji in the former foreign settlement, and the waterfront around TOTTEI and GLION ARENA KOBE. Street stages, food trucks, company booths, cultural displays, sports activities and harbor programming are spread between them.

The organizer expects about 100,000 visits across the weekend after reporting roughly 65,000 in 2025. That is a planning estimate, not a capacity guarantee. Treat a short map distance as slower during stage changes, road controls and the evening waterfront surge.

What to know

Saturday: tug-of-war, jazz, live music and the first drone show

On October 3, the TOTTEI main stage opens at 10:30. Published highlights include a Niihama Leon talk and live segment from 13:25, a special guest performance by Yuki Koyanagi from 19:00 to 19:30, and the LIGHTDANCe drone show from 19:45 to 20:00. The full page lists additional dance and live performances throughout the day.

The Sannomiya program includes the Kobe tug-of-war from 11:30 to 13:30, jazz at 13:50, samba from 14:30, and sunset jazz at 16:50. These are different locations from TOTTEI, so do not schedule adjacent items as if they share one stage. Save the event map and allow time to walk through controlled streets.

No reserved viewing product or guaranteed sightline is published for the general stages or drone show. Free admission does not prevent staff from limiting a crowded area. Arrive early for a priority performance, obey barriers and move to a different zone if an approach closes temporarily.

What to know

Sunday: basketball, Tani Yuuki, sky lanterns and the finale

The October 4 TOTTEI program includes Yamamoto Sayaka from 13:45, a planned Kobe Storks versus Hiroshima Dragonflies public viewing from 14:55 to 17:20, Tani Yuuki from 18:45 to 19:25, and a second drone show from 19:45 to 20:00. The organizer says schedules and content can change, so check the day page rather than relying on a saved artist list alone.

At the Sannomiya stage, jazz begins at 11:30, the KOBE FUTURE DRIVE ART PROJECT runs around noon and early afternoon, and samba is scheduled at 15:40. The sky-lantern program is listed from 18:30 to 19:00, with reception from 18:00 on the city event listing.

The sky-lantern item links to an advance application, so it is not safe to treat it as a walk-up activity. The festival page reviewed September 29 does not state the public application deadline, fee, allocation, age conditions or sold-out rule. Read the live form before applying and do not confuse participation with watching the surrounding public street program.

What to know

Admission, reservations, paid items and sellout conditions

General festival admission is free. No festival-wide ticket, gate reservation, booking deadline or overall sellout system is announced. Public stage viewing is presented as part of the free program, while food, drinks, merchandise, transport and separately operated experiences can still cost money.

The only prominently linked advance-registration item on the reviewed program is the October 4 sky-lantern activity. Because the organizer's public page does not reproduce its deadline, fee or remaining capacity, those conditions remain unannounced in this guide. An application may close when its allocation is filled even if the wider festival remains open.

Do not buy a general 'Kobe Autumn Festival ticket' from an unofficial seller. If a booth, cruise, sports experience or later-added activity introduces a booking or charge, verify the operator, exact area, time, cancellation terms and capacity through the organizer's current program.

What to know

Nearest stations and a realistic route between the areas

For the central street area, Kobe City gives about ten minutes on foot southwest from JR Sannomiya and about five minutes east from Kyukyoryuchi-Daimarumae Station on the Kaigan subway line. The several Sannomiya railway terminals have different exits; follow signs for the south side, City Hall or the former foreign settlement rather than searching for one universal 'Sannomiya exit.'

TOTTEI's operator gives about 20 minutes on foot from the Sannomiya stations to the waterfront address at 2-1 Shinkocho. It also lists Shinki Bus stops at Arena-mae and GLION ARENA KOBE, plus a 13-minute walk from Port Terminal Station. Event road controls can affect surface transport, so verify the live bus notice before depending on it.

From the Sanyo Shinkansen, use the subway or the official Port Loop service from Shin-Kobe toward the city and waterfront, then protect a generous return margin. Do not carry a large suitcase through multi-area street crowds; leave it at accommodation or a confirmed station facility before starting the route.

What to know

Road closures, buses and the no-parking decision

The published control area covers Sannomiya Chuo-dori, Kyomachi-suji and the Shinko pier waterfront road. The organizer schedules road closure on October 3 from 00:00 to 22:00, followed by lane restrictions until 07:00, and another road closure on October 4 from 07:00 to 24:00. Exact boundaries remain subject to the final detailed map, which was still pending on September 29.

The Sannomiya Chuo-dori underground car park is unavailable for entry or exit all day, and the Motomachi 1 and Shiyakusho-mae stops used by city bus routes 2 and 92 are unavailable for boarding. Kobe City says there is no event parking and asks visitors to use public transport.

Do not plan a taxi pickup inside a closed street or use a shop, hotel entrance or waterfront service road as an informal drop-off point. Choose a meeting place outside the controlled area, expect detours and keep emergency lanes, tactile paving and building entrances clear.

What to know

Rain, severe weather and the decision deadline

Kobe City's official event listing says the festival proceeds in rain and is cancelled in severe weather. The organizer plans to make the severe-weather decision by noon on the day before the event and publish it on the official festival website. No postponement date is announced.

A rain forecast is therefore not itself a cancellation. Bring a compact raincoat because umbrellas can block people in stage crowds and become difficult during wind. Protect your phone and keep footwear suitable for wet streets and the waterfront promenade.

A weather cancellation, artist change or drone suspension does not automatically establish reimbursement for unrelated transport, accommodation or purchases. Follow the specific organizer or seller terms and check JMA warnings before making a long trip.

What to know

Crowds, accessibility, photography and final checks

The event uses public streets and a waterfront complex rather than one uniform accessible route. Visitors avoiding long walks should choose one area, verify lifts and toilets at the relevant station or facility, and ask the organizer about the exact stage approach. The final event page does not publish one step-free route connecting every program.

No universal visitor rule for tripods, commercial filming or personal drones is published on the reviewed festival pages. Keep photography equipment out of roads and walkways, ask before close identifiable portraits and follow staff or venue instructions. Do not launch a personal drone near the official show or crowd.

Before departure, recheck the official timetable, event map, final traffic map, severe-weather notice, sky-lantern status if relevant, live rail or bus service and your last practical return. The thumbnail on this page is a generated editorial image inspired by a Kobe waterfront festival; it is not documentary photography of the 2026 event, its crowd, skyline, stage or drone formation.

If that does not work

Use the fallback.

  • A stage approach is full: move to another official area and return only when staff reopen the route; free admission does not guarantee entry to every crowd zone.
  • The sky-lantern application is closed or full: watch the public street program instead and do not buy an unofficial transfer or assume walk-up participation.
  • The drone show is changed or suspended: use the currently operating stages and waterfront program; do not wait in a closed road for an unconfirmed restart.
  • Severe weather cancels the festival: no postponement date is published, so follow the official notice and use an indoor Kobe plan away from controlled streets.
  • A bus route or stop is unavailable: walk from the rail station if suitable or use a live operator route outside the restriction zone rather than asking a driver to enter a closure.

Before you need it

Save this offline.

  • October 3–4 headline hours and chosen priority area
  • Official event map and final traffic-control map
  • JR Sannomiya, Kyukyoryuchi-Daimarumae or Port Terminal route
  • Sky-lantern application confirmation if participating
  • 19:45 TOTTEI drone-show time and flexible return train
  • Raincoat, water, portable battery and accommodation address
  • Official festival page and JMA warnings
