Why teamLab Planets feels different from an ordinary museum

teamLab Planets is designed as a sequence of large-scale environments that visitors enter physically. Light, sound, water, flowers, mirrored surfaces and responsive digital imagery change around the people inside. The route asks you to balance, wade, crouch and move rather than stand at a distance from framed works.

That physical involvement is the reason to go. The water works and Floating Flower Garden create images associated with the venue, but the stronger memory for many travelers is the change in footing, temperature, scale and orientation from one space to the next. Works and their presentation can change with maintenance, season and operations, so use promotional photographs as an indication rather than a room-by-room guarantee.

This is teamLab Planets in Toyosu. teamLab Borderless is a separate museum at Azabudai Hills with a separate ticket, station and visitor format. Planets has the well-known barefoot water route; Borderless is built around wandering through interconnected digital worlds. Confirm the venue name before paying.

Current hours, closures and the July 2026 new work

The official exhibition page checked on July 26, 2026 lists teamLab Planets from 8:00 to 22:00, with final admission at 21:00. It currently identifies August 5, September 3 and October 1, 2026 as closure dates. Hours, closure dates and ticket-sale periods can change, so verify the official page for the actual visit rather than relying on an old itinerary screenshot.

Body of Waves opened on July 22, 2026. It is a newly presented work in which the movement of a three-dimensional water surface becomes the visual form. This is a meaningful current reason for a returning visitor to recheck the venue, but no single work should be treated as guaranteed: teamLab warns that works can be unavailable or altered because of maintenance and operations.

The exhibition’s current official term runs through the end of 2027. That published end date makes Planets different from a museum described as permanently open, but it is still far enough away that a traveler should choose the visit on fit—not urgency alone.

What to know

The barefoot and water rules should decide the visit

The official visitor help says the Water area is experienced barefoot. Shoes, socks and tights come off in the locker area. Water can rise to adult knee height, while the relative depth is greater for a small child. Towels are provided after the water section, and detour routes are available for visitors who cannot enter a particular work.

The route also includes dark areas, strong light, soft or unstable footing and mirrored floors. Anyone with balance concerns, sensitivity to flashing lights or loud sound, fear of dark or enclosed spaces, or another relevant health condition should review the current warnings before booking. A detour can make the visit possible, but it also means not experiencing every work in the standard way.

Do not treat the water as a play pool. Hold a child’s hand, keep clothing dry enough to enter the next area and bring a complete change for young children. The official help recommends spare clothes because a child may get wetter than an adult even when both use the same route.

What to wear at teamLab Planets

The simplest outfit is comfortable trousers that can roll securely above the knee. Avoid tights because they must be removed, and avoid long hems that will trail in the water. Choose clothing that handles bending, a soft floor and a warm-to-cool transition without constant adjustment.

Mirror floors can reflect underneath skirts and wide-hemmed trousers. The venue provides free rental shorts in sizes XS through 6L, but changing on site costs time and availability should not be the basis of an outfit plan. Wearing opaque, close-fitting shorts or practical trousers from the start is easier.

The expanded venue is not one continuous barefoot route. Shoes stay in the locker for the Water area, then are used again for other sections. What matters is that they are easy to remove and secure on the foot: some works cannot be experienced in backless sandals or high heels, and the venue provides free loan shoes where required. Keep spare socks for personal comfort if useful, although the venue supplies sanitized towels after the official water route.

• Use the free rental shorts only as a backup.

What to know

Choose an Entrance Pass or Premium Pass

The official ticket store currently lists the timed Entrance Pass from ¥3,600 for adults aged 18 and over, ¥2,800 for junior-high and high-school students, ¥1,500 for ages 4–12, and free admission for ages three and under. Adult and disability-discount prices start at a published minimum and can vary by date. Check the actual calendar rather than budgeting from the lowest figure alone.

The ordinary Entrance Pass assigns a 30-minute entry window. It is an admission window, not a 30-minute stay. Official group guidance estimates roughly two to two and a half hours for the full venue and says there is no strict time limit once inside, although staff may ask long-staying visitors to move forward during peak crowding.

The ¥12,000 Premium Pass is a date-specific product for visitors aged four and over. It lets the holder go to the Information Center and enter without joining the ordinary admission queue, at any time permitted by the ticket on that date. It does not skip queues inside the exhibition and does not allow re-entry. The price premium is difficult to justify unless arrival-time flexibility or the entrance queue has unusually high value for your itinerary.

What to know

Klook or the official ticket store?

Klook activity 25300 currently sells timed admission, a Premium Pass and changing combinations such as Tokyo Tower or promotional shopping and eSIM additions. The ordinary packages checked on July 26, 2026 are valid for the selected date and time, provide instant confirmation and state that cancellations, refunds and changes are not available.

The official store also says purchased tickets cannot be cancelled or refunded. Its material difference is limited rescheduling: an eligible official Entrance Pass can be changed up to two hours before the admission start time, up to three times. An eligible official Premium Pass can be changed until 08:30 on the admission day, also up to three times. Coupon tickets, unavailable inventory, partial changes to a multi-ticket order and other listed cases are excluded.

Those official change rights do not transfer to Klook. Use the official site when your Tokyo day may move. Use Klook when the exact selected package, final USD price or bundle is genuinely better and the date is firm. Ignore the headline discount until you compare the same ticket category, date, age and entry time on the final screens.

What to know

QR tickets, timeslots and arriving late

For a direct official purchase, the ticket store emails a link to the QR ticket two days before the visit and displays the QR code after 00:00 on the admission day. You can scan it from a phone or carry a printed copy. Save the link and keep enough battery and mobile data to retrieve it.

Arrive for the time printed on the ticket and allow a navigation buffer. The official help says an individual direct-ticket visitor who is late can ask staff and may still enter during opening hours on the same day, with final admission one hour before closing. That is not a promise that a reseller will ignore its selected-time condition, nor a reason to plan a late arrival.

Klook instructs visitors to present the mobile voucher for the selected date and time and currently asks everyone in one booking to enter together. Its packages can contain different redemption wording, so use the instruction attached to the paid order rather than a screenshot of the general listing. Opening hours and closure dates can change; confirm the official live schedule on the day.

How to reach the correct Toyosu venue

The official address is 6-1-16 Toyosu, Koto-ku, Tokyo. Shin-Toyosu Station on the Yurikamome is about one minute away. Exit the ticket gate, go right and use the North Exit. From Toyosu Station on the Tokyo Metro Yurakucho Line, use Exit 7 and follow the Yurikamome structure for roughly a ten-minute walk.

The venue is also about five minutes on foot from Shijoumae Station and Toyosu Market. That makes a morning market visit, a Toyosu meal or the waterfront a logical same-area pairing. Do not combine it with Azabudai Hills on the assumption that the two teamLab museums share a site.

There is no dedicated venue car park. The official usage guide currently describes a weekday one-hour parking service at Urban Dock LaLaport Toyosu, with a different validation desk for Klook and other third-party tickets. Conditions can change and one free hour is shorter than a typical visit, so public transport remains the clearer default.

What to know

Lockers, luggage, strollers and food

Free lockers after the admission gate measure 23 cm wide by 34 cm deep by 37 cm high. A normal small day bag may fit; a cabin suitcase usually will not. Larger luggage must be secured by the visitor with a wire lock in the stroller-storage area under the venue’s current guidance, which is not equivalent to staffed, insured baggage storage.

Leave suitcases at the hotel or a major station. The visit is better with empty hands, and carrying an expensive laptop or camera kit through a wet, dark physical route creates avoidable risk. The venue states that it is not responsible for lost or stolen valuables.

Strollers cannot enter the exhibition and must be left in the designated area, while baby carriers are accepted. Eating, drinking and smoking are prohibited inside under the official help. Handle meals, open drinks and urgent family needs before scanning because you cannot re-enter after leaving.

What to know

Children, pregnancy and accessibility

Children aged three and under enter free, but the official rules require one adult for every three children, including children who enter free. Children under 13 cannot enter without a parent or guardian aged 18 or over. Student-ticket users may be asked for an accepted student ID or age document from any country.

The official help says wheelchair access is available, accessible toilets are inside and visitors using their own wheelchair need tire covers. Some works cannot be entered by wheelchair; some water works require transfer to a special water-area wheelchair and a companion because staff cannot push it inside. Other works can be viewed only from designated areas. Contact the venue before purchasing when a transfer, route or particular artwork determines whether the visit is worthwhile.

Certain areas may not be suitable during pregnancy, and dark spaces, strong sensory effects, soft surfaces and water can affect other visitors differently. The venue provides detours for disabilities, very young children and anyone unable to enter a room. Planets can still be enjoyable with a modified route, but a ticket does not guarantee the same access to every installation.

Published assistance-animal wording is inconsistent: the general official help lists assistance dogs as an exception to its animal prohibition, while the official group guidance and current Klook page use stricter language. Contact teamLab Planets directly before booking instead of relying on either general statement.

What to know

Photography and filming for creators

Personal photography is part of the appeal, but darkness, water and moving visitors reward a small setup. Charge the phone, clear storage, disable flash and keep the device secured. A large camera bag is a poor match for lockers and a route designed around balance and immersion.

Personal photos and video are allowed, but flash and photographic aids measuring 30 cm or more—including many tripods, monopods and selfie sticks—are prohibited. The official help also prohibits photos or video for commercial purposes without prior consent, and Klook’s current visitor rules prohibit commercial filming and live broadcasting. A normal ticket therefore does not grant rights for monetized YouTube production, client work, brand content or a controlled shoot. Contact the venue before the visit if the footage has a commercial purpose.

Avoid blocking a work for repeated takes, photographing strangers as the main subject or using equipment that interferes with others. The venue can also conduct its own recording without advance notice; tell staff if you do not consent to appearing.

What to know

Build a Toyosu half-day that does not feel rushed

Protect about three hours for arrival, the queue, lockers, the full route and getting dressed again. Add transport separately. A fixed dinner, Shinkansen or airport transfer immediately afterward leaves too little recovery time if admission is busy or the group moves slowly.

For a straightforward half-day, arrive by Shin-Toyosu, complete the museum, then continue on foot toward Toyosu Market, Senkyaku Banrai or the waterfront. Confirm each nearby facility’s own hours and entry rules rather than treating a Klook combination as one continuous venue.

Choose Planets over Borderless when the barefoot, water-based, body-responsive route is the attraction. Choose Borderless when you prefer a larger exploratory digital environment without the same water preparation, or when Azabudai fits the itinerary better. Either can be a strong Tokyo experience; the best choice follows mobility, clothing, location and ticket flexibility rather than the most dramatic photograph.
