Do this now

Follow these steps in order.

  1. 01

Download offline maps for arrival, accommodation and the first major route.

  2. 02

Save tickets and booking confirmations outside email-only access.

  3. 03

Save your accommodation name, address and phone number in English and Japanese.

  4. 04

Test that each critical file opens in airplane mode.

What to know

Prioritize the first hour

You do not need the whole country offline. Start with immigration and customs information, the airport-to-hotel route, the last realistic departure, and the contact details needed if you arrive late.

What to know

Screenshots need context

A cropped QR code may not show the passenger name, train, date or pickup location. Save the full confirmation as well as the scannable code, and respect any instruction that requires the live app.

What to know

Keep access separate from one device

A dead or lost phone should not remove every route, booking and contact. Where safe, keep a paper address card or a second authorized copy with a travel companion.

If that does not work

Use the fallback.

  • Use staffed information counters and show the saved Japanese address.
  • If a live app is required, connect only through a trusted network and confirm that the app is genuine before signing in.

Before you need it

Save this offline.

  • Arrival documents
  • Airport-to-hotel route
  • Hotel address in Japanese
  • Tickets and reservations
  • Emergency and insurer contacts
  • Connectivity setup guide
