Hakkeijima is free to enter, but the major experiences are paid

Yokohama Hakkeijima Sea Paradise occupies an island with aquariums, attractions, restaurants, shops and a hotel. The operator explicitly says Hakkeijima itself is free to enter. You can walk, eat and shop without automatically buying an aquarium or ride pass.

That matters for mixed groups. A non-riding adult who also does not plan to enter the aquariums may not need the same pass as the rest of the party. Anyone accompanying a child onto a paid attraction does need the relevant paid access, even when acting only as the attendant.

Do not confuse free island entry with free admission to Aqua Museum, Dolphin Fantasy, Fureai Lagoon or Umi Farm. Shows and animal areas inside the paid aquarium zone require the appropriate aquarium ticket.

The Aqua Resorts Pass covers four different aquariums

Aqua Museum is the main large aquarium, including a 50,000-sardine tank, shark and ray displays, an overhead aqua tube and the Live Stadium. Dolphin Fantasy uses natural light and underwater views; Fureai Lagoon is designed around closer animal encounters; Umi Farm connects the natural sea with learning and paid experience programs.

The four sites do not form one short indoor building. They are distributed around the island, and their final-entry times can differ. A traveler who wants animal programs, photographs and an unhurried route should allow much of a day rather than accepting Klook’s four-to-six-hour estimate as a guarantee.

The aquarium-only pass is usually the clearer choice for adults who will not ride, families whose children miss several height limits, bad-weather visitors and anyone who wants to follow the animal schedule without repeatedly crossing to Pleasure Land.

Choose the One Day Pass only when rides add real value

The One Day Pass combines all four aquariums with unlimited use of eligible Pleasure Land attractions. It can be good value for a full-day visit when multiple people want the Surf Coaster, Aqua Ride, Viking, Sea Paradise Tower, Paradise Cruise and family rides.

“Unlimited” does not mean every activity on the island. Special amusement, arcade games, paid animal experiences, reserved show seats, food and other separately priced programs are excluded or discounted rather than included. Weather, inspection and maintenance can remove eligible rides without producing an automatic parking or schedule refund.

Before paying the combined-pass premium, list the rides each person can actually use. Compare their individual prices with the difference between the aquarium pass and combined pass. If the group will ride only once or twice, aquarium admission plus single tickets may cost less.

The August 1, 2026 price increase changes the comparison

From August 1, 2026, the official One Day Pass becomes ¥5,900 for adults and high-school students, ¥4,300 for seniors age 65 and over, ¥4,300 for elementary and junior-high students, and ¥2,600 for preschool children age four and over.

The aquarium-only Aqua Resorts Pass remains ¥3,500, ¥3,000, ¥2,200 and ¥1,200 for those same categories. The Pleasure Land ride-only pass rises on August 1 to ¥3,500 for adults/high school, ¥3,000 for seniors and elementary/junior-high students, and ¥1,800 for preschool children age four and over.

Children age zero through three do not pay the ordinary attraction charge, but age, height and required-adult rules still control each ride. Compare Klook’s final USD total with the official yen price for the actual date; exchange rates and reseller promotions can change the apparent discount.

What to know

Night passes work only when the shorter day is enough

The Paradise Night Pass includes the four aquariums and eligible rides from 16:00. From August 1, its official prices are ¥3,900 for adult/high school, ¥2,600 for senior and elementary/junior-high, and ¥1,700 for preschool age four and over.

The Night Aqua Resorts Pass covers only the four aquariums from 16:00 and currently costs ¥2,800, ¥2,400, ¥1,700 and ¥850. Both night products are sold only on weekends, holidays and specified dates, and sales can be suspended.

A 16:00 start is not useful if Umi Farm or Fureai Lagoon closes soon afterwards, a must-see show has finished, or ride queues stop accepting guests early. Open the exact-date hours and event schedule before choosing the lower price. Night tickets are better for a focused evening than for trying to compress the entire complex.

What to know

Ride restrictions can make the combined pass poor value

Surf Coaster LEVIATHAN requires a height of at least 120 centimetres and has an upper age limit of 64. Viking requires 110 centimetres. Aqua Ride II accepts a rider who is at least 110 centimetres tall or at least age five, subject to the operator’s other safety requirements.

Several family rides require an adult for smaller or younger children. Riders who have consumed alcohol cannot use most attractions. Pregnant guests are limited to the Island Tour Bus, Sea Train and Merry-go-round under the operator’s general rule.

Mobility requirements differ by attraction. Some allow a wheelchair onboard; some require transfer to a seat; the coaster, Aqua Ride, Viking and Sea Boat require independent walking, stairs and the ability to brace and hold safety equipment. Ask the operator about the actual guest rather than assuming a pass guarantees a ride.

What to know

Check the suspension calendar before buying for a specific ride

The operator publishes both a planned suspension calendar and live wait or operation status. Strong wind, rain, inspection or equipment conditions can still cancel an attraction outside the planned calendar, and queues may close before the advertised Pleasure Land closing time.

As of this July 26, 2026 review, Flight Eagle and Marine Cart Fantasia are listed as suspended for the time being. The status can change, so this is a prompt to use the live page—not a promise that they will remain closed for every future date.

If one coaster or cruise determines whether you buy a combined pass, recheck the morning of the visit. Klook’s gallery and general description do not override the operator’s daily status.

What to know

Each facility keeps its own hours

The island opening period, Aqua Museum, Dolphin Fantasy, Umi Farm, Fureai Lagoon, Pleasure Land, shops and restaurants can all use different schedules. The times shown for the four aquariums are final-entry times; their buildings close 30 minutes later.

For example, the operator’s July 21, 2026 schedule showed Aqua Museum and Dolphin Fantasy final entry at 20:00, Umi Farm and Fureai Lagoon at 18:00, and Pleasure Land operation to 19:30. That example illustrates the structure, not the hours for another date.

Check the exact calendar after choosing the day. Animal welfare, private operation and bad weather can alter programs and hours, while popular attractions may stop admitting riders early during busy periods.

What to know

Use Hakkeijima Station, not central Yokohama as the destination

The nearest station is Hakkeijima on the automated Seaside Line. Connect to the Seaside Line at Shin-Sugita from the JR Negishi Line or at Kanazawa-Hakkei from the Keikyu network. The final route is outside the Minato Mirai and Yokohama Station sightseeing core.

Allow time for the transfer, station walk and movement across the island. A Tokyo hotel departure makes this a substantial travel day, not a quick add-on after central Yokohama. Save the return train route because evening service and transfers determine how long you can stay.

A limited direct bus is advertised from Yokohama Station YCAT and Minato Mirai, but the operator says it runs only twice a day. Verify the date, stop, reservation and return time instead of designing the trip around a general bus description.

What to know

Driving ends outside the island

General vehicles cannot enter Hakkeijima. The main A parking lot has 1,500 spaces and currently costs ¥1,500 on ordinary weekdays or ¥2,000 on weekends, holidays, specified busy days and weekdays in August. Its entrance closes at 20:00 even when the lot remains open later.

Other B, C, E and F lots have different hours, height limits and payment methods. Surrounding roads and lots can fill during weekends and tourist periods, and the operator recommends public transport.

Do not use the parking fee or lot availability as a reason to stay until closing without checking the actual exit and payment conditions. The facility says it does not refund parking fees.

What to know

Families should plan heat, walking and separate experiences

The island mixes indoor aquariums with outdoor walking and rides. In summer, alternate the exposed areas with Aqua Museum and meal breaks, carry water and check heat alerts. Aqua Ride can soak riders; wind and rain can close outdoor attractions even while aquariums continue operating.

There are five baby rooms, a lost-child center and stroller routes using lifts. Stroller rental requires the Babycal service and currently costs ¥250 for the first hour plus ¥150 per additional 30 minutes, for children from one month through 48 months and up to 18 kilograms.

Animal-interaction programs, reserved show seats, kids’ areas, treasure hunting and games can require separate fees or advance reservations. A One Day Pass should not be presented to a child as permission for every activity shown on the map.

What to know

Accessibility is broader in the aquariums than on thrill rides

The operator publishes lift routes through the aquariums and Bay Market plus 13 wheelchair-accessible restrooms on the island. Limited wheelchairs can be borrowed free for emergency use. This supports an accessible aquarium visit but does not prove that every path, show seat or attraction fits every guest.

Merry-go-round, Island Tour Bus, Paradise Cruise and Sea Train can accommodate a wheelchair under published conditions and with an accompanying person. Other rides require transfer or independent evacuation abilities. Contact the operator with the exact chair, transfer, companion and emergency-evacuation requirements.

The disability discount is 50% on the Aqua Resorts Pass for the certificate holder and one caregiver age 18 or over. The operator says there is no disability-discounted One Day Pass, making ticket choice especially important.

What to know

Klook requires a live mobile voucher

Klook currently sells One Day, Paradise Night, Aqua Resorts, Night Aqua Resorts and Pleasure Land options on activity 7891. The selected ticket is valid for the specified date, and the package page—not the general listing—controls its cancellation rule.

Klook says the URL certificate must be opened on a phone with internet access through My Bookings. Present it to facility staff and do not operate it yourself; a voucher marked used can become invalid. Save the booking details offline, but keep a working data connection for the live certificate.

Some Klook package labels say conditional cancellation, while the separate barbecue package advertises free cancellation with 24 hours’ notice. Do not apply the restaurant rule to an aquarium ticket. Open the selected package, record its local-time deadline and check whether weather-related ride closures change anything.

What to know

Lockers, charging and filming need advance thought

The island has 280 coin lockers at Center House, Aqua Museum and the passenger terminal. Some take only ¥100 coins, some cash and some transit IC cards; the largest published lockers are limited. The operator does not provide ordinary staffed baggage storage for day visitors.

Free Wi-Fi is limited to specified areas, while mobile-battery rental is available. That makes a charged phone, Japan data connection and saved map important for a Klook mobile voucher across a large site.

Personal photography must respect animal, attraction and other-guest rules. Media and commercial filming—including CM or promotional-video use—requires contact with the operator. An admission ticket does not grant a location or model release.

What to know

Final ticket decision

Choose Aqua Resorts when the four aquariums are enough. Choose Pleasure Land only for a ride-led visit. Choose the combined One Day Pass when a realistic ride list makes the added price worthwhile. Choose a night product only after confirming that it is sold and the remaining hours cover your priorities.

Then compare the official yen price with Klook’s complete USD total for the same date and age categories. Check the selected cancellation rule, live mobile-voucher requirement and any separately paid program.

On the visit morning, reopen operating hours, animal events, ride suspensions and weather. A pass is a right to use eligible facilities while they operate, not a guarantee that every aquarium, ride or show will be available.
