Maxell Aqua Park Shinagawa combines aquarium exhibits with projection mapping, music, lighting and seasonal staging. The official concept describes about 20,000 animals from roughly 350 species, but the strongest reason to choose it is not scale. It is the dense, entertainment-led presentation in a central Tokyo building.

The 360-degree dolphin stadium is the signature space. Day programs are participatory and energetic, while night programs use darker lighting and digital effects. The Wonder Tube, jellyfish displays and seasonal entrance installations make the visit visually focused and easy to pair with another half-day activity.

Who gets the most value from a visit

The aquarium is a strong fit for first-time Tokyo visitors who want one polished indoor attraction without crossing the city. Families can combine tanks, short performances and visual effects, while couples and photographers may prefer the darker evening presentation.

Its location is especially useful on a Shinagawa hotel day, before a later Shinkansen departure, or after arriving from Haneda. Do not schedule it inside a tight connection: station navigation, ticket entry, lockers and the performance timetable still require a margin.

This is not a sprawling aquarium campus. Travelers who want a full day of large-scale marine exhibits, extensive outdoor areas or a primarily educational museum should compare other options before buying. The venue’s creative identity depends heavily on lighting, sound and performance.

Animal performances are also a personal decision. If you do not want to support or attend a dolphin show, the exhibits can still be visited, but the main selling point may not justify the price for you.

Admission and 2026 summer hours

Official standard admission is ¥2,800 for adults, ¥1,300 for elementary and junior-high students, and ¥800 for children aged four and five. Children aged three and under are free according to the official FAQ. Rides and selected animal-interaction programs require separate payment.

Hours vary by date. The official calendar lists 9:00–20:00 with last admission at 19:00 from July 25 through August 7, 2026, and 9:00–21:00 with last admission at 20:00 from August 8–16. On August 22–23 the aquarium closes at 18:00, with last admission at 17:30, before a separate after-hours event. Dolphin performances: regular seating or a reserved plan

The official FAQ describes the regular dolphin performance as included with admission and normally using unreserved seating. Programs last about 15 minutes. Seats cannot be held using bags alone, so arrive as a complete group with enough time before the performance.

For selected crowded dates—currently August 8–16, 2026—the aquarium sells a web-only plan that combines admission with a reserved seat for one daytime performance. The official adult price is ¥4,500, with selected shows at 11:30, 13:00, 14:30 or 16:00. The plan does not allow same-day cancellation, refund or time changes. Buy it only if seat certainty matters enough to justify the difference from regular admission.

Splash is possible during performances. Protect cameras, phones, leather goods and clothing, and do not use flash during the night program because it interferes with the production.

The current summer event changes the evening experience

From July 4 through September 6, 2026, the official Hanabi Aquarium event uses a Japanese summer-fireworks theme across the aquarium. The daytime dolphin program is Summer FUN Research, while the night version uses 360-degree digital fireworks, light, sound and water effects.

If the seasonal night presentation is your priority, check the daily event schedule before purchasing and plan to remain until the appropriate show. Event dates do not guarantee every component at every time, and animal or operational conditions can change programs.

How to reach it from Shinagawa Station

The aquarium is inside the Shinagawa Prince Hotel complex, about a two-minute walk from Shinagawa Station’s Takanawa Exit. Shinagawa serves the Tokaido Shinkansen, JR lines and the Keikyu Line, but the station has several exits. Follow signs to the Takanawa side rather than the Konan side.

The official access page estimates the Keikyu journey from Haneda Airport at about 11 minutes at the fastest from the international-terminal station, before the station walk and waiting time. Use your actual flight terminal and train timetable rather than treating that estimate as a guaranteed airport transfer.

Luggage, accessibility and family facilities

The aquarium does not provide staffed luggage storage. Paid lockers are behind the first-floor entrance: small ¥300, medium ¥500 and large ¥700. The listed large compartment is 872 × 352 × 678 mm, so a wide suitcase may not fit even if the height sounds sufficient. Shinagawa Station or your hotel may be a better choice for large baggage.

The building has elevators, ramps and two wheelchair-accessible toilets. A limited number of wheelchairs can be borrowed without advance reservation. Strollers are not rented, but three stroller-storage areas are provided. Families can also use diaper-changing areas and a nursing room.

Klook currently sells a fixed-date ticket with a flexible entry time. Its English listing says the mobile voucher is shown for entry, same-day re-entry is allowed, and the voucher page requires internet access; staff must operate the ticket, not the customer.

These are reseller conditions, not permanent aquarium policy. Before paying, confirm the selected date, age category, final USD price, cancellation deadline and voucher instructions. Compare the total with the official ¥2,800 adult admission and any hotel-guest discount you may qualify for.

Photography and creator use

Personal photography must follow staff instructions and performance-specific restrictions. Turn off flash where requested, protect equipment from seawater and avoid blocking aisles or seats. A visually impressive show is not permission to obstruct other visitors.

Monetized or commercial filming should be cleared with the aquarium’s location-services team in advance. The operating company directs inquiries for dramas, advertising, promotional videos and other commercial shoots to its sales staff; ordinary admission does not grant those production rights.
