What to know

This is a living garden, not an indoor projection maze

teamLab Botanical Garden Osaka opened as a permanent exhibition on July 29, 2022. After dark, the living Nagai Botanical Garden becomes the artwork: trees, the central pond, wind, rain, humidity, birds, other wildlife and visitor movement alter light and sound in real time.

That “Digitized Nature” idea makes it fundamentally different from teamLab Planets or Borderless. There are no mirror rooms or climate-controlled corridors to reproduce exactly each night. Current works include the ovoid forms of Resonating Microcosms, Forest of Autonomous Resonating Life and lamps on the pond, alongside pieces that respond to trees, birds and wind.

There is no mandatory route. Visitors move around the garden and choose how long to spend at each work. The display, colors and vegetation can change with the season, environmental conditions or maintenance, so a promotional photograph is an example rather than a guaranteed scene.

What to know

Official prices vary by date

The official public page lists online prices starting from ¥1,800 for an adult aged 16 and over, ¥500 for a child aged 6–15 and ¥900 for a disability ticket. Preschool children aged five and under enter free. “From” matters: the live official calendar showed higher totals on many July, August and September 2026 dates.

Examples checked on July 26 included adult/child/disability totals of ¥2,000/¥600/¥1,000 on July 26 and 28, ¥2,200/¥700/¥1,100 on August 1 and 15, and ¥1,900/¥550/¥950 on August 17 and September 1. These examples demonstrate the system; they are not a promise for another date.

Same-day gate tickets, when not sold out, add ¥200 to an adult online price and ¥100 to a child or disability ticket. Only the current day is sold at the venue. Booking online reduces sellout risk and makes the total visible before traveling.

What to know

Children and disability tickets have separate rules

Children of middle-school age and younger must be accompanied by a guardian aged 18 or over. The official rule allows up to three children—including free preschool children—per adult guardian. Every visitor still needs the appropriate ticket or free-entry entitlement.

The disability price applies to the certificate holder and up to one accompanying person, but each needs a separate ticket. The official FAQ accepts overseas disability certificates as well as supported Japanese documents and Mirairo ID. Bring the original proof used for eligibility.

From July 1 through August 31, 2026, elementary and junior-high-school students who live in Osaka Prefecture can reserve free admission through the official site. Proof of age and Osaka address may be requested, the guardian still needs a paid ticket, and the offer is not a general tourist discount or Klook package.

What to know

Current summer and September 2026 hours

Opening follows sunset. The live official schedule checked on July 26 lists 19:45–21:30 through July 31; 19:30–21:30 from August 1–14; 19:15–21:30 from August 15–31; 19:00–21:30 from September 1–13; and 18:30–21:30 from September 15–30. Final entry is 20:30 throughout those listed periods.

Current scheduled closures are July 6 and 27, August 24, and September 14 and 28. The next closure after this review date is July 27. October and later hours were not yet shown on the live page, so do not extend the September pattern into a future trip.

An older May 2026 release showed a 19:30 July start, while the live page and current Klook listing show 19:45. Use the live official schedule because it is newer. Klook’s day-of-week display does not reliably show every closure date.

What to know

Entry is flexible—but 20:30 leaves only one hour

A current dated ticket allows entry between the exhibition opening and the 20:30 final-admission deadline rather than assigning one narrow 15-minute slot. At popular opening times, the venue warns that visitors can still wait about 10–30 minutes outdoors.

There is no separate stay limit after entry, but everyone leaves by the 21:30 close and re-entry is not permitted. A 20:30 entry therefore leaves at most one hour before closure, less any queue or orientation time.

Klook suggests one to two hours. Allowing 90–120 minutes is the safer editorial range for walking, photography and pauses without racing every work. Enter near opening or no later than about 20:00 when the exhibition is the evening’s priority.

What to know

August brings a new white-sunflower artwork

teamLab has announced a new work using approximately 20,000 white sunflower plants from August 1, 2026. The piece is tied to the flowers’ natural condition and is scheduled only until the blooming period ends.

The exact end date can move with growth and weather, so do not buy a late-summer ticket solely from one promotional image. Check the live work list and event notice for the visit date.

Other installations also change or pause with season, wildlife, maintenance and crowd conditions. That variability is part of a living outdoor exhibition, not automatically a service failure.

What to know

Rain changes the art; severe weather can stop it

Ordinary rain can change reflections, sound and the movement of the garden. The official material does not say that every rainy evening is cancelled, but individual works such as Pillars that Dance with the Wind may be unavailable in rain or strong wind.

A storm warning, heavy-rain warning or advisory, thunder advisory, unsafe conditions or an earthquake of intensity four or higher can delay, interrupt or cancel the exhibition. If thunder begins during the visit, the official safety guidance says to move away from trees and shelter in a nearby building.

Check the official exhibition page and the teamLab Nagai social account before leaving. In summer, bring water, insect protection and heat protection; in colder months, dress for a long outdoor walk. Rain can make already uneven ground more difficult.

What to know

Darkness and uneven ground are part of the visit

The exhibition uses an actual botanical garden after dark. Routes include unpaved, sloped or unstable ground, low light and environmental obstacles rather than the consistent floor of a museum. Comfortable athletic or walking shoes are the safest choice.

Long skirts, loose costumes, sandals or heels can make dark paths harder. Small children require continuous supervision, particularly around the pond, slopes and visitors looking at screens rather than the path.

The venue warns of flashing or changing lights and loud sound. Travelers sensitive to light, sound or darkness should review the current work information and decide whether the uncontrolled outdoor environment is appropriate.

What to know

Wheelchair access is partial, not complete

Wheelchair users can enter, but the official page says the garden contains many unpaved areas and that some zones, including parts of the eucalyptus area, cannot be accessed by wheelchair. This is not a promise that every artwork has an equivalent accessible viewpoint.

Klook currently marks the activity stroller- and wheelchair-accessible, but that marketplace icon is broader than the operator’s detailed limitation. Contact the venue in advance when a specific route, chair width or assistance need matters.

Service dogs are allowed; other animals are not. A stroller can help on some paths but does not remove darkness, slopes or rough ground. A family should be ready to turn back from any route that is unsafe on the night.

What to know

How to reach Nagai Botanical Garden

The simplest route is Osaka Metro’s Midosuji Line to Nagai Station, then about 10 minutes east from exit 3. JR Hanwa Line Nagai Station is about 12 minutes away from its east exit, while JR Tsurugaoka Station is about 15 minutes on foot.

Kintetsu Minami-Osaka Line Harinakano Station is about 20 minutes from the west exit. Osaka City Bus route 4 stops at Nagai Higashi, about five minutes north of the garden. Save the garden entrance rather than a generic Nagai Park pin because the park is large.

The operator expects the car parks to be busy and recommends public transport. For a taxi, the official guidance identifies Times Nagai Botanical Garden Front on the park’s south side as a nearby drop-off; the return taxi area is near the park’s southwest entrance.

What to know

Photography is handheld and personal only

Personal photographs and videos are allowed when they do not obstruct other visitors. Flash, drones, monopods, tripods, selfie sticks and similar support equipment are prohibited. Bring a phone or handheld camera that you can operate safely in the dark.

Night mode and a steady hand can be useful, but the path takes priority over a screen. Do not stop in a narrow route or touch a work unless the installation invites interaction. Photographing other visitors closely without consent is inappropriate.

Commercial shooting, organized media work and other unapproved business use require advance permission. Ordinary admission does not grant a creator or brand production rights simply because personal video is allowed.

What to know

Large luggage and food cannot enter

Klook states that the venue has no luggage-storage facility, and the operator prohibits luggage measuring 50 cm or longer. A wheeled suitcase can therefore block admission. Leave it at the hotel or another verified facility before traveling to Nagai.

Do not promise that a particular station locker will be available: size and vacancy are not guaranteed. If visiting between hotels, arrange storage before the evening rather than searching around Nagai near final entry.

Food, alcohol, sweets and chewing gum are prohibited. Drinks are allowed, but a closed bottle or flask is the practical option; open containers are not allowed. The exhibition is smoke-free, and visitors take their rubbish away.

What to know

Official ticket or Klook?

The official ticket site shows the exact JPY total for each date and carries adult, child and disability categories. It is required for the 2026 Osaka-resident student offer and currently permits up to three date changes for eligible direct tickets before 21:00 on the planned visit day, subject to availability and same-price restrictions.

Official tickets are generally non-refundable. A refund applies when the exhibition itself is temporarily cancelled, but related transport and travel expenses are not covered. A date cannot be changed into a sold-out day, another ticket category, a partially split order or a differently priced date under the stated restrictions.

Klook offers an English interface, instant confirmation, mobile QR direct entry and USD display. Its public page labels the booking non-refundable except for exhibition cancellation. It also displays a changeable feature up to two hours before the start while another package block says changes are unavailable. Treat the exact checkout and issued voucher as controlling rather than promising free changes.

What to know

A low-risk evening plan

Check the official date, closure, opening time, weather notice and live price before buying. Store luggage earlier in the day, eat before the visit and take the Midosuji Line with enough time for the 10-minute walk and a possible outdoor queue.

Enter near opening, complete the rougher or more distant paths while energy is highest, then revisit accessible central works for photography. Carry a closed drink and keep both hands available on dark or wet ground.

Leave before the final rush if another train or reservation matters. The experience works best as the main evening plan, not as a one-hour add-on reached at 20:30.
