Kyoto, Nara and Sagano Train Day Tour: Which Package Includes the Train?

What to know

This page sells five materially different packages

The current Klook page groups multiple products under one activity headline. The visible choices include an English-speaking Osaka departure with optional Kyoto or Osaka drop-off, an English-or-Chinese Osaka hotel-pickup option, an English-or-Chinese Osaka departure that explicitly includes the Arashiyama train, a Mandarin package and an English-or-Chinese Kyoto departure.

These are not cosmetic language variations. Departure city, hotel pickup, guide language, final drop-off and train inclusion change with the selected package. Complete every field before using the displayed price as a comparison.

Choose the package by its complete name, then capture the inclusions and itinerary before payment. A photo of the train or a train reference in the activity title does not override the selected package.

What to know

Only one visible package explicitly includes the train

Klook’s activity introduction tells travelers to choose a package that includes the Arashiyama train. In the current package list, the only title that does so explicitly is “English or Chinese Guide — Osaka Departure — Includes Arashiyama Train Ticket.”

The ordinary English-speaking Osaka departure, Osaka hotel pickup and Kyoto departure do not state train inclusion in their visible names. Treat the train as excluded from those options unless the final package inclusion list says otherwise or Klook confirms it in writing.

If an English-only guide is essential, note that the train-inclusive title currently says English or Chinese guide rather than English-speaking guide only. Decide whether guaranteed language or the scenic train is more important before booking.

What to know

Do not add an independent train ticket casually

The Sagano Romantic Train runs to a fixed timetable with assigned seats. The official railway sells individual tickets from midnight Japan time one month before the boarding date, and same-day tickets are limited. A guide cannot move a multi-city coach tour around an independently chosen train simply because a seat is available.

Klook’s good-to-know section recommends a train-inclusive package or contacting customer service in advance. Follow that advice. If the selected tour does not include the train, use the normal Arashiyama sightseeing time rather than buying a separate ticket without written route coordination.

A standalone train reservation also needs the correct direction, boarding station, time and return connection. Missing the coach or rejoining point is a larger loss than skipping the train.

What to know

The railway does not sell a round-trip ticket product

Klook currently tells peak-season travelers to buy “round-trip tickets” from Sagano to Kameoka. The railway’s official FAQ says round-trip tickets are not available and that each one-way journey must be purchased separately.

This discrepancy matters because a package may need only one direction and use the coach for the rest of the route. Do not buy two train legs because of the marketplace wording. Ask which exact train, direction and stations the tour uses.

Official direct e-tickets display a QR code on the travel day and must be shown on a smartphone or tablet; a printed voucher alone is not accepted. Those rules apply to a direct official purchase, while an included tour ticket follows the final tour voucher and guide instructions.

What to know

Use the official 2026 operating calendar

The official railway began its 2026 season on March 1 after winter maintenance. It also announced that the current train, now in its thirty-fifth year, is planned to retire after the 2026 operating season before a new train arrives in spring 2027.

Klook summarizes peak, Wednesday and winter operating patterns, but the official date-specific calendar is the controlling source. Special trains, maintenance, weather and service suspensions can change what runs.

Check the official calendar immediately before selecting the train package and again before departure. A tour can still visit Arashiyama without the train, so read the seller’s substitution and cancellation terms rather than assuming the whole day will be refunded.

What to know

The train is a gorge ride, not a full Arashiyama tour

The regular one-way timetable takes roughly 23–25 minutes between Torokko Saga and Torokko Kameoka. The appeal is the Hozu River gorge and seasonal scenery, not a long-distance railway journey.

A train-inclusive tour must also transfer passengers, reach the station, board at a fixed time and reconnect with the coach. This can reduce the free time available for Togetsukyo Bridge, the bamboo path, shops or a temple.

Choose the train when the gorge ride is a priority. Choose the non-train package when unstructured Arashiyama walking, food and shopping matter more than the fixed departure.

What to know

Arashiyama contains several separate stops

Togetsukyo Bridge, the bamboo path, Tenryu-ji, Nonomiya Shrine, Randen’s Kimono Forest and the Torokko stations are in the same district but not one single attraction. Crowds can make the walks much slower than a map suggests.

The railway’s official FAQ estimates about ten minutes from Torokko Saga Station to the bamboo grove and about twenty minutes between Torokko Saga and Torokko Arashiyama stations, subject to congestion. Torokko Arashiyama is closest to the bamboo path.

Prioritize two or three Arashiyama goals. A group tour cannot guarantee a quiet bamboo photo, a café queue, temple interiors, souvenir shopping and an assigned train within the same compressed stop.

What to know

Tenryu-ji admission is not one simple ticket

Klook’s activity marketing says visitors can enter Tenryu-ji, but the visible package titles do not establish whether admission is included in every option. Confirm the selected inclusion list rather than treating the headline as a paid ticket.

The temple’s current official price is ¥500 for the garden for high-school age and older and ¥300 for elementary and middle-school students. The buildings cost an additional ¥300. The Cloud Dragon painting is another separate ¥500 admission and is shown only on published days.

Regular garden hours are 08:30–17:00 with last admission at 16:50. Buildings and the Dharma Hall can close for ceremonies or heat, so a tour stop at the temple does not guarantee access to every interior.

What to know

Kimono Forest does not mean kimono rental

Kimono Forest is the illuminated textile-pillar installation around Randen Arashiyama Station. It is a photo stop, not a kimono-dressing service.

The Klook promotional image shows a kimono-clad traveler at Fushimi Inari, but the visible package titles do not list kimono rental. Treat clothing, professional photography, rickshaw rides, food and shopping as separate purchases unless the selected inclusions explicitly add them.

The tour normally reaches Arashiyama in daytime. Do not book solely for a night illumination photograph unless the dated itinerary places the group there after dark.

What to know

Torokko Arashiyama Station has about 60 steps

The official railway warns that Torokko Arashiyama Station has about 60 steps to the platform. It recommends Torokko Saga Station for wheelchair users and people using walking sticks.

The tour also includes long paths, uneven surfaces and a large amount of standing. Contact Klook before payment with the exact wheelchair, walker or stroller dimensions and ask which train station, vehicle and route the selected package uses.

Car No. 5 is an open-air carriage and may get wet; umbrellas are prohibited inside and rain does not create an official same-day refund or seat change. A train-inclusive tour does not guarantee this carriage or any particular seat unless the package states it.

What to know

Fushimi Inari is a short lower-trail visit

Fushimi Inari covers the sacred 233-meter Inariyama and its torii route continues far beyond the famous lower galleries. A day tour that also visits Nara and Arashiyama cannot provide a full summit circuit.

Expect worship at the lower shrine and time around the Senbon Torii unless the selected itinerary says otherwise. Stay with the group’s return time rather than continuing uphill because the coach cannot wait for a missing hiker.

The shrine prohibits blocking narrow paths for photos, commercial photography without permission, drones, eating while walking and damage to torii gates or trees. The torii are a place of worship, not a private photo set.

What to know

Nara deer are wild animals

Nara Park’s deer are protected natural monuments, but they remain wild. The official tourism guide warns that males can be aggressive, especially in autumn, and that deer may bite when food is delayed.

Feed only official deer crackers, one at a time, and show empty hands when finished. Keep maps, plastic bags and other food closed because deer can snatch and swallow them. Children should feed with an adult.

Nara Park itself is extensive and the official guide recommends at least half a day for a complete visit. On this tour, expect a focused deer and park stop rather than comprehensive entry to Tōdai-ji, Kasugataisha and every museum.

What to know

Declare infants, strollers and luggage

Klook says infants must be counted for vehicle capacity. Guests bringing an infant or stroller must add a note during booking or contact customer service at least one day before departure so the operator can reserve space.

Travelers boarding in Osaka, choosing Kyoto Station drop-off and carrying luggage must also notify the seller at booking or at least one day ahead. Do not arrive with an undeclared suitcase and assume the vehicle can hold it.

A day-tour coach is not a luggage-forwarding service. Keep valuables, medicine and travel documents with you and use station or hotel storage for bags that are not needed during the tour.

What to know

Pregnancy and age 70 trigger a seller waiver

Klook’s current good-to-know section says pregnant travelers and people aged 70 or older must sign a travel disclaimer on site before departure. This is a seller condition, not a general Japanese tourism rule.

A signed waiver does not answer whether the route is physically suitable. Ask about walking distance, steps, restrooms, vehicle access and emergency support before paying, particularly when heat or mobility is a concern.

What to know

Hotel pickup and return city are separate choices

The current package list includes an Osaka hotel-pickup product, but that does not mean every Osaka accommodation is covered. Enter the real hotel and read the pickup zone, confirmation process and meeting time before choosing it over the standard departure.

Several packages also offer Kyoto or Osaka drop-off. Choose the city that matches the night’s hotel and luggage plan. The final voucher controls the precise endpoint; “Kyoto drop-off” should not be interpreted as door-to-door hotel delivery.

Save the meeting point, vehicle description, guide contact and return instruction offline. Large station complexes make a vague city name insufficient.

What to know

Compare this tour with the existing Course A or B option

This activity is the better comparison when the Sagano Romantic Train and Arashiyama are central to the decision. The separate Kyoto and Nara Course A or B tour on this site offers a different product page and route choices, including a Uji-focused Course A.

Compare the exact date, departure, guide language, train inclusion, temple admissions, meals, child pricing, pickup, drop-off and cancellation deadline. Do not compare only the two headline prices because they buy different itineraries.

Choose neither if separate Kyoto and Nara days are available and depth matters more than transport convenience. An independent plan can give Fushimi Inari, Arashiyama and Nara each the time they deserve.
