What to know
This is the airport-side aquarium—not Churaumi
DMM Kariyushi Aquarium is in Tomigusuku, inside the iias Okinawa Toyosaki shopping complex south of central Naha. The official site describes it as about five kilometres in a straight line from Naha Airport and about 20 minutes by car, while warning that traffic changes the actual journey.
Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium is in Motobu in northern Okinawa. It is the stronger destination when a whale shark, the Kuroshio Sea tank and a wider Ocean Expo Park day are the reason for traveling. DMM Kariyushi is the practical choice for a shorter Naha-area plan, a rainy-day option or an airport-side stop when luggage and flight timing are handled safely.
Do not compare the two only by admission price. Compare the complete transport time, animals and presentation you want, the available hours and whether a compact mall-based visit or a northern-island day fits the trip.
What to know
Official admission uses value, regular and peak prices
The aquarium’s official calendar assigns each date to a value, regular or peak price band. As checked on July 26, 2026, adult admission for ages 18 and over is ¥2,800, ¥2,950 or ¥3,200. Ages 13–17 are ¥2,200, ¥2,350 or ¥2,600, while ages 4–12 are ¥1,700, ¥1,850 or ¥2,100. Children aged three or younger enter free with a guardian.
The band is determined by the visit date, not by when the ticket was purchased. Open the operating calendar for the actual day before comparing an official yen price with a Klook USD price.
The official price page also publishes reduced admission for eligible disability-certificate holders. Do not buy an ordinary reseller ticket before confirming whether the traveler and one companion qualify and which document must be shown.
What to know
Klook has four package labels to distinguish
Klook activity 55241 currently divides tickets into off-peak full admission, off-peak entry after 17:00, peak full admission and peak entry after 17:00. Its marketplace language does not use the aquarium’s three official labels in exactly the same way, so the selected Klook package and date must agree.
The public listing shows a 60-day validity badge, instant confirmation and free cancellation before redemption for all four options reviewed. Treat those as current marketplace summaries, not a reason to ignore the final voucher. A seasonal package can still have an eligible use window and redemption conditions.
Do not quote a temporary Klook USD price as the permanent ticket cost. Select the real age category and package, then compare the checkout total with the official value, regular or peak price for that date.
- Off-peak and peak are separate marketplace packages.
- After-17:00 tickets cannot be used for an earlier entry.
- The validity badge does not extend the aquarium’s operating calendar.
- Cancellation must be checked before the voucher is redeemed.
What to know
The current Klook ticket requires counter redemption
Every activity 55241 package visible during this review says “Collect physical ticket” and directs the customer to pick up the ticket at the ticket counter. Do not walk directly to the admission gate based on an older review describing QR entry.
The aquarium sells same-day tickets at the machines and counter in front of the second-floor entrance. For Klook, open the final voucher and follow its named redemption counter, documents and operating window. Keep the device charged and the voucher available offline.
Last admission is 60 minutes before closing, and the aquarium says ticket-machine and counter sales end at the same time. Arriving at the mall does not stop that deadline; allow time to find the second-floor entrance and complete redemption.
What to know
After 17:00 can be good value—but it shortens the visit
The regular official schedule is 09:00–19:00, with last admission at 18:00. Some calendar dates have different hours, and the aquarium can change operations or restrict entry because of weather, events or crowding.
On an ordinary 19:00 closing day, an after-17:00 ticket provides at most two hours before closing. That can suit a focused aquarium visit after shopping or an airport-area afternoon, but it offers less flexibility for experiences that sell out or close earlier.
The animal-contact area tetote currently operates 10:00–18:00 with last entry at 17:30. An after-17:00 admission therefore leaves only a narrow possible window, even for a visitor who meets its health restrictions. Check the exact aquarium closing time and experience schedule before choosing the lower-priced evening package.
What to know
Same-day re-entry needs both a stamp and the ticket
The aquarium permits re-entry only on the same day. Before leaving, use the transparent UV-ink stamp near the first-floor exit gate or second-floor entrance area.
On return, show both the stamp and the admission ticket to staff near the second-floor gate. A hand stamp alone is not the stated re-entry method, which is another reason to keep the physical Klook ticket after the first scan.
This can make a mall meal or break practical, but re-entry does not extend closing time or revive a completed animal-experience sales window.
What to know
The main attraction is a mixed aquarium-and-animal experience
DMM Kariyushi combines marine tanks, a large circular tank window, a glass-over-water viewing area, jellyfish lighting and digital presentation with land animals and subtropical environments. It should be judged as a compact entertainment aquarium, not as a smaller copy of Churaumi.
The current site highlights otters, sloths and the animal-contact area tetote alongside aquatic displays. Exhibits and programs can change without notice for animal health or equipment maintenance, so do not book solely for one animal encounter.
Allow roughly 90 minutes to two and a half hours as editorial planning guidance, then add time for a reserved or first-come experience. The aquarium does not publish a mandatory visit duration, and families or photographers may move more slowly.
What to know
tetote has a critical rule for newly arrived international travelers
The aquarium’s code of conduct imposes biosecurity restrictions specifically on the animal-contact area tetote. It says guests who entered or returned to Japan less than one week ago may not enter that area.
This restriction does not mean an overseas visitor is barred from the entire aquarium. It means a traveler arriving from abroad must wait until at least one week has elapsed before using tetote, subject to the aquarium’s interpretation at the time of the visit.
Tetote also refuses entry to guests who feel unwell, are carrying food containing meat, or have contacted pigs at a pig farm, zoo or as pets within the previous two days. Check with staff when eligibility is unclear rather than concealing relevant contact.

Animal experiences cost extra and can sell out
Standard admission does not guarantee every feeding, contact or behind-the-scenes activity. The official late-entry ticket page explicitly excludes in-facility and experience fees.
The current backstage tour costs ¥1,000, runs at 10:00, 13:00 and 15:00, and is limited to ten people per session on a first-come basis. Children in third grade or younger require a paying adult companion. The route has uneven footing, photography is prohibited backstage, and animal or weather conditions can change or cancel it.
Other feeding and contact schedules should be checked on the visit day. If one is essential, arrive before sales begin, confirm the separate price and restrictions, and accept that animal welfare takes priority over the advertised program.
What to know
Airport proximity does not make large luggage acceptable
The aquarium’s code of conduct prohibits suitcases, trunks and comparable large bags inside. This matters for visitors planning the attraction immediately after landing or before a flight.
Coin lockers beside the entrance gate are limited. The published internal dimensions are 352 × 678 × 325 millimetres for ¥200, 352 × 678 × 516 millimetres for ¥300, and 352 × 678 × 866 millimetres for ¥500. Compare the bag’s real dimensions; height alone does not prove it will fit.
Do not arrive with checked luggage and assume an aquarium locker will be available. Use a hotel, airport or confirmed storage service first, and keep enough time for luggage collection before airline check-in.
What to know
Car and bus access require different buffers
Drivers can use the iias Okinawa Toyosaki car park, which the aquarium describes as free and approximately 3,000 spaces, including accessible parking. The 20-minute airport drive is an estimate; congestion can lengthen the trip.
Tokyo Bus and Naha Bus services use either iias Okinawa Toyosaki or Toyosaki Chura SUN Beach-mae. The official access page currently points to TK02 Umikaji Liner and route 95 Airport Ashibinaa for the mall stop, plus routes 55, 56 and 98 for the beach stop.
The aquarium warns that regular buses can be suspended without notice and road congestion can change arrival and departure times. Check the responsible bus operator’s live timetable for the direction you need, then save the last practical return before entering.
What to know
Accessibility is supported, but not every view is equivalent
The aquarium provides elevators and ramps and permits wheelchair entry, while warning that some viewing areas are difficult to access by wheelchair. Ask about the specific glass-floor, slope or animal area that matters rather than interpreting “barrier-free” as identical access everywhere.
The aquarium itself does not loan wheelchairs. The adjacent iias shopping center offers a limited number from its 10:00 opening, so that option does not help an unplanned 09:00 aquarium arrival.
Strollers are permitted, but the aquarium does not loan them; mall carts may be used inside. A nursing room and diaper-changing space are on the aquarium’s first floor. Service dogs are allowed under stated certification rules, although some areas can have safety conditions.
What to know
Personal photos are allowed; commercial filming is not
Personal photography is permitted except in marked no-photography areas. Flash is prohibited, and the aquarium can stop shooting that obstructs guests, threatens safety or disturbs operations.
The code of conduct prohibits commercial or profit-oriented photography and video without advance permission. It also prohibits using the aquarium for an unauthorized photo session or meetup. YouTubers, sponsored creators and commercial productions should use the official media-inquiry form before buying an ordinary ticket for a shoot.
Keep other guests out of published footage where possible and do not use bright lights around animals. The marketplace promotional photograph used above identifies the product but does not promise the same lighting, animal position or crowd level.
What to know
Food, Wi-Fi and family details affect the route
Ordinary food and drink may not be brought into the aquarium; baby food is allowed, and guests with dietary restrictions are instructed to consult staff. The first-floor cafe is the stated in-aquarium dining option.
Free Wi-Fi is available as DMM_Kariyushi_Free. Save the Klook voucher and return transport offline anyway, because public Wi-Fi should not be the only way to retrieve a paid ticket.
Children younger than six must be accompanied by a guardian, and adults should supervise closely in areas where animals are near visitors. Dark lighting, slopes and stairs make walking while looking at a phone a safety issue.
What to know
When DMM Kariyushi is the better aquarium choice
Choose DMM Kariyushi when the itinerary stays around Naha, Tomigusuku or the airport, a compact indoor attraction is valuable, and the group enjoys both aquarium visuals and land-animal areas. It also combines naturally with iias shopping or a nearby meal.
Choose Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium when the whale shark, Kuroshio Sea tank and a northern-island destination day justify the long journey. Churaumi is not a reasonable quick substitute near Naha, and DMM Kariyushi does not offer the same scale or signature animals.
For DMM Kariyushi, book Klook only after matching activity 55241, the correct season, traveler ages, counter redemption and after-17:00 restriction. The best deal is the option that fits the real operating day—not simply the lowest headline price.
