The National Fireworks Competition in Omagari began in 1910 and is a judged competition rather than a routine city display. The organizer says 28 companies will compete in 2026 for awards including the Prime Minister's Prize. The competition is hosted by the Omagari Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Daisen City. The official page does not publish a separate public opening ceremony time in the reviewed English details. Enter through the gate assigned to the ticket and allow time for security, crowd movement and the long walk from the station.

A ticket is required, and the scheduled sales windows have closed
This is not a free riverbank event. The organizer's ordinary online sales windows ran June 12–23 and, if inventory remained, July 21–31; an on-site advance sale was scheduled for July 5. As checked on August 13, those published windows have ended. The reviewed page does not announce a new general sale, and the official FAQ says same-day tickets are generally not available.
The organizer warns that many seats sell immediately and sales end when inventory is gone. It also says overseas purchases are not currently possible. Do not book a special journey on the assumption that an overseas card, an unofficial resale page or a same-day queue will produce admission. Recheck the official ticket and news pages for any organizer-announced availability, and avoid a listing whose seat, seller and transfer conditions cannot be verified.

Official seat prices range from ¥8,000 to ¥70,000
The published prices are per designated seat or area, not always per person. Platinum Pair seating costs ¥70,000 for two people; a Deluxe Table costs ¥50,000 for four; a Table costs ¥38,000 for four; an Embankment Box costs ¥30,000 for four; a Leisure Sheet costs ¥15,000 for four; a Pair Bench costs ¥13,000 for two; and one Chair seat costs ¥8,000. Photographer areas are ¥25,000 for A, ¥18,000 for B and ¥13,000 for C.
Children of elementary-school age and above need a ticket. A younger child may enter free only with an accompanying adult and without using a separate seat. Personal cancellations are not refundable, seat types cannot be changed and lost tickets are not reissued. Check the exact area, capacity and entry gate on the official page before accepting any available ticket.

The organizer recommends JR Omagari Station, approximately 2 kilometres or a 30-minute walk from the venue. Extra trains are normally planned and detailed timetables are published closer to the event, but an event label on a train does not guarantee that it serves your route or connects to your final destination.
A current disruption changes the 2026 plan: JR East says the Kitakami Line is suspended between Hotto-Yuda and Yokote, and selected planned Omagari Fireworks temporary trains using the Kitakami route will not operate. Do not rely on a return through Kitakami or Ichinoseki without a newly confirmed alternative. Check JR East again immediately before departure and save the exact outbound and return train numbers offline.

Book the night around the return, not just the fireworks
The evening program is scheduled to end at 21:30, after which a very large audience moves toward the same station and roads. The organizer warns that nearby accommodation often fills and suggests extending the search along the Akita Shinkansen, Ou Main and Tazawako corridors, including Yokote, Yuzawa, Akita, Kakunodate, Tazawako, Shizukuishi and Morioka.
Before buying any remaining seat, verify that the chosen hotel can actually be reached after the program. A room in another city is useful only if a train is scheduled, operating and reachable after crowd controls. Keep a conservative station-walk allowance and follow the official pedestrian route rather than cutting through closed roads or private land.

Driving means registered parking, closures and hours of congestion
The organizer advises public transport because central Daisen has extensive traffic restrictions. Some parking requires advance registration through the official DraPla route, and listed lots can become inaccessible later in the day. A normal map app cannot override a police closure or guarantee an exit after the fireworks.
The access guide warns that National Routes 13 and 105 and the Omagari interchange can be severely congested from the afternoon until roughly 02:00–03:00. If driving is unavoidable, use only a verified official lot, save its permitted approach and opening conditions, and expect the journey out to take much longer than an ordinary-night estimate.

Bad weather can postpone or cancel the competition
The organizer says a new date will be decided according to forecast conditions when bad weather prevents the scheduled event; it does not publish one automatic fallback date on the reviewed overview. If postponed, the same ticket remains valid. If the competition is cancelled, the organizer will announce the refund method. A shortened or partly held program is not refundable.
Check the official news, Japan Meteorological Agency warnings and JR East status before leaving. Use a raincoat rather than an umbrella in dense seating, protect the ticket and phone, and follow evacuation or staff instructions. August heat can remain dangerous before sunset, so check Akita's current WBGT, hydrate and use shade before the gates and program begin.
What to know
Photograph without blocking the audience or emergency routes
Use only the ticketed photographer area when the equipment or setup requires it. In ordinary seating, keep tripods, stands and bags within the permitted space and below any sightline or safety restrictions stated for that area. A purchased seat does not grant permission to occupy an aisle, riverbank edge or neighboring seat.
For crowd images, avoid identifiable close portraits without permission. Turn down screen brightness, disable flash toward spectators and keep evacuation routes clear. The competition's value comes from its judged visual program; considerate setup lets nearby visitors see it as well.
