Before you book
Make these decisions in order.
- 01
Select the actual date and exact rental package before comparing the final USD price.
- 02
Ask which garments are included in the base price and see every upgrade charge before dressing.
- 03
Confirm the ordinary same-day return deadline, late-return rule and whether next-day return exists.
- 04
Treat rental, makeup and location photography as separate purchases unless your selected package explicitly combines them.
What to know
Why the Gion-Shijo base is the real reason to choose Misaki
A kimono rental is easier to enjoy when the shop, walking route and return point form one compact loop. Misaki’s listed address is on the fourth floor of Tokiwa Building in Gion, close to the traditional streets south of Shijo-dori and the western approach to Yasaka Shrine. This makes the shop more useful as a Gion base than as a generic citywide rental.
A practical route is to dress, walk through public sections of Gion, continue to Yasaka Shrine and Maruyama Park, then return without crossing Kyoto. Yasaka Shrine’s official access page places the shrine about five minutes from Gion-Shijo Station and says the grounds are open for worship around the clock, while the shrine office operates 9:00–17:00. Individual buildings, ceremonies and photography areas can still have their own restrictions.
What to know
What the current listing actually offers
Klook activity 127739 currently shows women’s kimono, men’s kimono, couple kimono, a summer-only women’s option, makeup, location photography and a Japanese wedding-style photo shoot as separate package types. It lists English, Japanese and Vietnamese and says the shop operates from 8:00 to 17:30.
The overview advertises more than 400 kimono and yukata, free hairstyling for women and unlimited hair accessories. It does not publish a stable garment-by-garment catalog, so a pattern visible in a promotional photo is not a reserved item. Sizes, seasonal inventory and premium designs should be confirmed for the actual visit date.
- Women’s, men’s and couple rental choices are separate.
- Makeup appears as its own package rather than a universal inclusion.
- Location photography is sold separately and must not be assumed to include a rental.
- The Japanese wedding-style shoot is a distinct product, not an ordinary sightseeing rental.
What to know
Resolve the “everything included” contradiction before dressing
The same Klook overview says both that everything is included with no additional charges and that certain kimono may require additional fees. Those statements cannot tell you which visible rack, obi, bag, footwear or accessory is included in your selected base package.
Before staff begin dressing, ask them to identify the included selection and show the total price for every optional upgrade. If a particular color, formal style or premium pattern is essential, do not assume the headline price covers it. A clear photograph of the chosen package screen and a written total are more useful than relying on a gallery image.
What to know
The ordinary return deadline is still unresolved
The summer-only women’s package explicitly says return by 19:30, even though the general business hours are listed as 8:00–17:30. The public overview does not state one equally clear deadline for the ordinary women’s, men’s or couple packages.
Select a date and package, then confirm the voucher’s return time, last fitting time, late fee and return location. Also ask whether next-day or hotel return exists; it should not be inferred from competing Kyoto rental shops. Build at least 30 minutes of walking margin into the return plan because crowds, unfamiliar footwear, rain and photo stops can all slow the route.
What to know
Hairstyling, makeup and photography are different decisions
Free hairstyling is specifically advertised for women, together with unlimited hair accessories. Makeup is displayed as a separate package. Travelers should therefore confirm whether the selected styling covers only a choice of preset hairstyles, whether short hair can be styled and whether any accessory category costs extra.
The location-photography option is also separate. Before buying it, confirm whether a kimono rental is required or included, the shooting duration, meeting point, walking route, number and format of delivered files, editing, delivery method, weather policy and commercial-use rights. The public listing currently promises photography service and an unlimited number of people, but it does not expose one stable set of deliverables before a date and package are selected.

A compact route is better than forcing Kiyomizu-dera into the day
From a Gion base, focus on the public streets around Hanamikoji, Yasaka Shrine and Maruyama Park. This minimizes long walks in zori and makes it easier to return before the deadline. Keep restaurant reservations flexible because sleeves, obi and unfamiliar footwear can make a tightly timed meal less comfortable.
The Klook overview mentions Kiyomizu-dera, but that does not make it a nearby shop. Reaching the temple means a longer walk through sloped and often crowded Higashiyama streets, then returning to Gion. If Kiyomizu-dera, Ninenzaka and Sannenzaka are the core itinerary, compare a rental close to the temple approach instead.
What to know
Gion is a neighborhood, not a photo set
Kyoto City’s official responsible-travel guidance says not to stop, touch, follow or take unauthorized photographs or video of geiko and maiko. It also warns that photography is prohibited in many Gion areas and that visitors must not enter private property or block roads and sidewalks.
Use only public areas where photography is permitted, follow signs at shrines and temples, keep tripods out of traffic and ask before photographing identifiable people. A kimono rental or paid photographer does not create access to private alleys, doorways or restricted religious spaces.
What to know
Summer kimono planning is a safety decision
Kyoto’s official seasonal guidance describes summer as hot and humid, with midsummer temperatures often above 35°C and sudden afternoon rain or thunderstorms. A lighter yukata does not remove heat risk, especially when layered, walking in unfamiliar footwear and pausing for photographs.
On hot days, choose an early appointment, shorten the route, carry water, take air-conditioned breaks and check the heat index. Kyoto’s official heat guidance says to drink before feeling thirsty and avoid overexertion. End the rental early if you feel dizzy, nauseous or unusually weak.
What to know
Accessibility, luggage and fit need direct confirmation
The listed shop is in room 402 on the fourth floor. The public page does not confirm elevator dimensions, step-free access, accessible changing space or seating during dressing. Ask before booking if anyone uses a wheelchair, mobility aid or cannot stand for an extended fitting.
Luggage storage is also not clearly published. Confirm what bag size can be stored, whether valuables are accepted, when belongings must be collected and what happens if the group returns late. For fit, provide height and any relevant measurements in advance rather than assuming that 400-plus garments means every size is available.

Final booking checklist
Open the English Klook page, select the real date and read only the package you intend to buy. Save the voucher and shop address offline. If the final package screen does not answer a material question, use Klook support before paying rather than relying on reviews or terms from a different rental company.
The highest-value confirmation is not the discount. It is knowing the included garment tier, total upgrade cost, dressing time, return deadline and any photography deliverables before the day begins.
- Activity number 127739 and the Tokiwa Building room 402 address.
- Exact women’s, men’s, couple, summer, makeup or photography package.
- Included garment rack, obi, bag, footwear, socks and hair accessories.
- Every premium garment, makeup and accessory surcharge.
- Arrival, dressing and same-day return deadlines; late-return fee.
- Cancellation, rain, damage and stain rules in the selected voucher.
- Luggage storage, elevator and mobility arrangements.
- Photo duration, route, files, editing, delivery and usage rights.
