Dormy Inn Nagano: Onsen, Rooms, Tattoo Rules and 2026 Tax

What to know

The operator pages place it one to three minutes from Nagano Station

Dormy Inn’s home page describes the hotel as about one minute from the Zenkoji Exit rotary, while its detailed access page says about three minutes. Klook currently maps it at roughly 300 metres or four minutes. These estimates use different starting points, but all support the same planning conclusion: this is a genuinely station-area base.

Allow longer with luggage, snow, an unfamiliar exit or a tight train connection. Use the Zenkoji Exit side of JR Nagano Station and save the Japanese address rather than navigating only to the hotel name.

The location is strongest for a rail trip: arrive from Tokyo or another Nagano destination, leave the main suitcase, and use local transport toward Zenkoji or an onward excursion. It is not a resort stay and does not place every Nagano attraction within walking distance.

What to know

The public bath is the main reason to book

The shared men’s and women’s bathing areas are on the 11th floor and include an indoor bath, open-air bath, water bath and high-temperature dry sauna. The operator lists bath access from 15:00 until 10:00 the next morning; the sauna is unavailable from 01:00–05:00.

The indoor bath uses natural hot-spring water transported from a source in Nagano City. The official page describes the spring as a simple sulfur cold mineral spring. Do not interpret that as a private in-room onsen or assume that every tub uses the same natural water.

Bring the room towel because the operator says towels are not placed in the changing area. Swimwear is not worn, towels must stay out of the bath, and phones or cameras are prohibited in the bath and changing room. The laundry corner is in the bath changing area, so its placement may also matter to a guest who cannot use that area.

What to know

Do not assume a tattoo cover sticker is accepted

The property-specific official spa page says guests with tattoos are refused. Dormy Inn’s chain FAQ is less absolute: it says tattooed guests are refused in principle but describes limited cover stickers at some properties. Klook currently says a tattoo under 8 by 13 centimetres may be covered with a property sticker.

Those statements conflict, and the property page is the more specific official source. Do not arrive expecting a Klook summary or a chain-level exception to override the Nagano hotel’s rule. Send the size, position and number of tattoos to the hotel and obtain a written answer for your date.

If the hotel does not confirm access, value the booking as a room without a usable public bath. A cover, swimsuit or private time slot is not a published workaround, and a standard room does not include a private hot-spring bath.

What to know

A Double is still a compact 14 m² room

The official room table lists both the Single and Double at 14 square metres with the same 1,400 by 1,950 millimetre bed. The label changes the permitted occupancy, not the floor area or bed size. This can work well for one person or a couple packing lightly, but two open suitcases can dominate the available space.

The Twin is 23–24 square metres with two 1,100 by 1,950 millimetre beds. It is the more practical comparison for two adults who need separate beds, additional floor space or easier luggage access. Search both categories with the real guests because the cheaper Double may not be the better total value.

All guest rooms are non-smoking; smoking booths are on the first and seventh floors. The property lists 153 rooms: 36 Single, 90 Double, 26 Twin and one Universal room. Do not infer the Universal room’s door widths, bathroom equipment or transfer space from its name—ask the hotel with exact access requirements.

What to know

Children have a one-per-bed rule and no crib

Dormy Inn’s official FAQ allows one bed-sharing child per bed. A child age two or under can share without a room charge; a child from age three through elementary school is currently ¥3,000 per night when sharing; junior-high-school students and older are charged as adults. A child needing separate bedding is also charged at the adult rate.

The property says cribs are not available. A limited bed guard may be requested, but availability and suitability must be confirmed. A 14-square-metre Double is not automatically comfortable for two adults and a child merely because the booking engine permits the party.

For the public bath, Dormy Inn’s general rule allows mixed-gender bathing only through age six, subject to local rules. Confirm the property’s current practice and never send a young child to a bathing area unsupervised.

What to know

Breakfast is useful before an early Nagano day

The first-floor restaurant serves the current Japanese and Western buffet from 06:30–09:30, with last entry at 09:00. The hotel publishes ¥2,000 for an adult, ¥1,000 from age three through elementary school, and no charge for age two and under, including tax. It is for hotel guests.

The local signature is Shinshu soba with wild vegetables and mushrooms. That also makes buckwheat an important allergy question. Dormy Inn lists nine allergens used in its breakfast operation and warns that the same kitchen equipment and oil are shared, so the buffet is not a cross-contact-free environment.

A Klook rate may include breakfast or sell it separately. Compare the exact room package and child meal charges rather than adding Klook’s approximate breakfast figure to every rate. Ask the hotel before booking if an allergy or dietary restriction determines whether the buffet has value.

What to know

The free services are useful only if your schedule matches

Dormy Inn currently advertises complimentary Yonaki Soba ramen in the first-floor restaurant from 21:30–23:00. Ice treats are listed from 15:00–25:00 and a probiotic drink from 05:00–10:00 around the bath service. These small additions make a late station-area return more convenient.

They are timed hotel services, not cash credits or guaranteed replacements for dinner and breakfast. The ramen contains wheat and egg, and the soup contains chicken and pork according to the chain’s allergy notice. A late arrival or dietary restriction can remove much of the advertised value.

Use the services if they naturally fit the trip. Recheck the current hotel notice because times, stock and operation can change after this July 26, 2026 review.

Nagano accommodation tax is ¥200 through May 2029

Nagano Prefecture introduced an accommodation tax on June 1, 2026. Through May 31, 2029, the rate is ¥200 per person per night. From June 1, 2029, the prefectural rate is scheduled to become ¥300.

A stay is exempt when the room-only amount before consumption tax is under ¥6,000 per person per night. Meals and other non-room charges are not part of that threshold. The accommodation collects the tax, and a reseller’s online total may or may not include it.

Check the final Klook property-pay line and carry a way to settle any amount due at the hotel. These tax details were verified on the Nagano Prefecture website on July 26, 2026.

Klook’s generic city-tax range is not the Nagano rule

Klook’s public hotel overview currently displays a broad possible city-tax range of ¥100–¥10,000. That is a generic marketplace notice, not the specific Nagano Prefecture rate for this property.

For a 2026 Dormy Inn Nagano stay, use the official ¥200 rule and its under-¥6,000 exemption when estimating the local charge. The hotel or platform still determines when it is collected, so preserve the checkout breakdown and ask about an unclear property-pay amount.

A generic warning is useful because it signals that tax may be extra; it should not be repeated as though a guest at this hotel might randomly owe ¥10,000 per night.

What to know

Parking changes from Friday through Sunday and holidays

The property has 24 mechanical spaces plus two surface spaces and uses a first-come system. The facility page lists hotel parking at ¥1,200 per night. Vehicle limits are approximately 5.30 metres long, 2.05 metres high, 2.05 metres wide, 11 centimetres ground clearance and 2.5 tonnes; modified vehicles may be refused.

From Friday through Sunday and on holidays, the road in front of the hotel closes and drivers are directed to the affiliated Nagano Tokyu Department Store First Parking. The access page lists that arrangement at ¥1,000 from 14:00–12:00, without reservations. Leaving during the covered period, using it outside those hours or finding it full can add cost or inconvenience.

Contact the hotel before driving because the two official pages describe different lots and prices. A free motorcycle area may be available on the uncovered surface lot, but the hotel asks riders to confirm first.

What to know

Luggage delivery needs the lead guest and stay date

The property can hold baggage before check-in and after checkout on the departure day, subject to hotel agreement. This is useful for a Zenkoji visit, but same-day collection and storage limits should be confirmed instead of treating the lobby as indefinite storage.

For a parcel sent before arrival, contact the hotel first and label it with the stay date, lead guest, contact details and contents. Use prepaid delivery, keep the tracking number and do not send cash-on-delivery items. Chilled or frozen parcels may be refused.

Keep passports, medicine, money, fragile valuables and batteries with you. If forwarding a suitcase onward, confirm that the receiving accommodation accepts it before arranging shipment.

What to know

Klook and the operator describe cash differently

Klook’s current public property summary says cash is not accepted and lists credit-card payment. Dormy Inn’s official FAQ says payment is generally made at check-in and publishes major cards plus electronic and QR payment at the chain as of February 2026. A Klook rate can instead require online prepayment.

These statements describe different stages or channels and should not be merged into one universal rule. Read the selected Klook rate for prepayment and the final voucher for any property-pay amount. Ask the hotel which method can settle accommodation tax and incidentals if you will not carry cash.

The same distinction applies to cancellation. Dormy Inn’s direct-booking schedule does not control a Klook reservation. Record the selected rate’s deadline in Japan Standard Time, no-show charge, modification process and refund method before payment.

Late arrival, access and filming need direct confirmation

Standard check-in starts at 15:00 and checkout is by 11:00, although a plan can change those times. Klook currently displays check-in before 05:30 the next morning, but do not use that as permission to arrive without notice. Contact the hotel with the booking name and estimated arrival time so the room is not treated as a no-show.

The property lists one Universal room and limited wheelchair loans, but it does not publish enough dimensions or equipment to prove a complete accessible route. Confirm the entrance, lift, room, toilet, bath alternative, bed transfer and parking needed by the actual guest.

Personal phones and cameras are prohibited in the bath and changing room. Commercial filming or photography in the hotel’s other shared spaces also requires advance operator permission. A room booking does not grant a location release or permission to identify other guests.

Final booking sequence

First, decide whether the shared bath is usable for every guest. Second, compare the 14-square-metre Double with the 23–24-square-metre Twin using the real party, luggage and bed needs. Third, add breakfast only when its hours and allergy conditions fit the itinerary.

Then compare Klook and the hotel’s direct booking on the same room, meals, cancellation and tax treatment. Resolve any tattoo, child, accessibility, parking, late-arrival or payment question in writing before choosing a restrictive rate.

After booking, save the voucher, official address, Nagano Station exit, property contact and current operating notices offline. Room inventory, services, prices and reseller terms can change after this July 26, 2026 review.
