Before you go
Make these decisions in order.
- 01
Open the franchise’s official café page and confirm the branch before following any booking link.
- 02
Read release timing, guest-count, arrival, cancellation and payment rules for that café—not a copied summary.
- 03
Create a nearby fallback: official goods store, takeout counter or another neighborhood activity that works without the reservation.
Where to find it
Choose the stop that fits your route.
Pokémon Café
The official FAQ says advance reservation is required and lists separate Tokyo and Osaka branches with arrival rules.
Kirby Café
The operator directs guests to the official reservation pages and warns against resale or intermediary bookings.
Sanrio Café
Official Sanrio store pages list café locations, hours, access and payment methods; verify the branch before traveling.
Understand the trend
Permanent café does not mean walk-in café
A permanent character café can still operate on timed reservations. Pokémon Café explicitly requires one, and Kirby Café sends guests to branch-specific official booking pages. Permanent means the concept is not a short pop-up; it does not remove capacity limits.
A collaboration café is even more date-sensitive. The featured title, menu and merchandise can change or end before your trip. Always match the official announcement’s campaign dates to your visit date.
Understand the trend
Every café has its own release clock and account rules
There is no universal character-café booking method. Guest limits, reservation release dates, account creation, identity checks, cancellation deadlines and card acceptance belong to the specific operator. A successful Pokémon booking tactic may be useless for Kirby Café after a system change.
Use a time-zone converter for Japan Standard Time, allow official emails through spam filters and save the confirmation. Do not pay an unofficial intermediary simply because it appears above the operator in search results.
Understand the trend
Food restrictions and merchandise rules deserve equal attention
Themed presentation does not guarantee that ingredients can be changed. The Pokémon Café FAQ, for example, says specific ingredients cannot be removed or substituted. Review the official allergy guidance before booking when the meal must meet a medical or dietary requirement.
Limited goods may be available only with a reservation, only in the café or subject to a per-person limit. Decide whether the priority is the food, the space or the merchandise so one sold-out item does not invalidate the entire visit.
- Save the confirmation and venue address offline.
- Arrive at the time specified by the café, not at the meal’s nominal start time.
- Check whether every guest must order an item.
- Do not assume takeout, substitutions or late seating are available.

Frequently asked questions
Japanese Character Cafés FAQ
Should I use a reservation service that promises a table?
Use the café’s official booking route. Kirby Café explicitly warns guests to reserve through the official page and not through resale or intermediary sites.
Are Pokémon Café and Kirby Café in the same places?
They overlap in Tokyo and Osaka at a city level, but they are different venues and systems. Kirby Café also has a Hakata location; Pokémon Café’s official site lists Tokyo and Osaka.
What if every reservation is full?
Build a no-booking fallback nearby, such as an official shop, a takeout location clearly listed by the operator or another district activity. Do not sacrifice half a day repeatedly refreshing at the venue.
Can character cafés handle food allergies?
Policies vary. Read the specific café’s official allergen and substitution guidance before booking. Do not rely on a photo of an old menu.
