Before you book

Make these decisions in order.

  1. 01

Check the aquarium’s official schedule for your exact date; summer hours and private-event closures differ from the regular timetable.

  2. 02

Decide whether the aquarium fits a Kagawa half-day, rather than treating it as a quick stop between distant destinations.

  3. 03

Compare the current Klook ticket conditions with the official admission price before purchasing.

  4. 04

Save the route from JR Utazu Station and the day’s animal-program schedule before leaving your hotel.

What to know

Why Shikoku Aquarium is more than a rainy-day stop

Shikoku Aquarium is built around the waters that shape the island rather than a generic collection of marine life. Its official exhibition concept presents a story of water and life through 70 scenes, including the Pacific Ocean, Seto Inland Sea, deep sea, jellyfish, freshwater and active-field zones.

The most distinctive setting is the dolphin pool facing the Seto Inland Sea. The low visual barrier between the pool and the horizon makes the coastal landscape part of the exhibit, particularly later in the day. Animal programs can change or be cancelled for welfare or operational reasons, so treat them as a bonus rather than a guaranteed show.

  • Four signature tanks include Watatsumi, Sunset Sea, Uzushio and Shark Shadow.
  • The Uzushio display interprets the turbulent waters of the Naruto Strait.
  • Indoor and outdoor areas make weather and summer heat part of the planning decision.

What to know

Who will enjoy it most

The aquarium works best for travelers who want a slower, visually focused attraction between larger sightseeing days. Families gain a manageable indoor-outdoor visit, while photographers can work with water, architecture and the Seto Inland Sea backdrop. It also gives first-time Shikoku visitors a useful introduction to the region’s rivers and surrounding seas.

Allow a half-day including the station walk, ticketing and a meal or break. Klook suggests one to three hours inside, but your actual visit will depend on the animal-program timetable, crowds and whether you stop for food. This is planning guidance, not a fixed official duration.

What to know

When it may not deserve a place in your itinerary

Skip it if you have only a few hours in Kagawa and your main reason for visiting is Ritsurin Garden, contemporary art, udon or a specific pilgrimage temple. The aquarium is in Utazu, not central Takamatsu, so the return journey must fit the rest of the day.

Travelers expecting a large theme-park-scale aquarium should also check the floor map before booking. The value is in the Shikoku-specific presentation and seaside setting, not simply the number of hours it can fill.

What to know

Hours and admission for 2026

The official regular schedule is 9:00–18:00 with last admission at 17:30. Regular individual admission is ¥2,600 for ages 16 and over, ¥1,400 for ages 7–15, ¥700 for ages 3–6, and free for children aged two and under. These details were checked on July 25, 2026.

Summer hours are longer on selected dates. The aquarium lists 9:00–20:30 on July 25–26, 9:00–19:30 from July 18–August 10 and August 16–30 excluding July 25–26, and 9:00–21:00 from August 11–15. It also lists a maintenance closure from February 2–4, 2027. Weather, disasters, private use or animal conditions can still cause changes, so open the official schedule on the day you visit.

What to know

How to reach Shikoku Aquarium without a car

The aquarium is about a 12-minute walk from the north exit of JR Utazu Station. From Okayama, the aquarium’s official access guide recommends either taking the Marine Liner to Sakaide and changing to a JR Yosan Line train toward Kotohira, or using a limited express that stops at Utazu. Confirm the actual train and reserved-seat rules with JR before travel.

From Takamatsu Airport, the official guide points to the Marugame–Sakaide airport limousine bus. The ride to the south side of Utazu Station is about one hour, followed by the walk to the aquarium. Driving visitors should use a nearby paid car park; the aquarium recommends public transport on busy weekends and holidays because spaces are limited.

What to know

How the Klook ticket works

The current Klook listing offers a date-specific admission voucher with direct entry by showing the voucher in the Klook app. At the time checked, it states that cancellation is free with at least 24 hours’ notice, re-entry is allowed on the same day, and the offer is not available to Japanese passport holders.

Those are reseller conditions, not aquarium rules, and they can change. Check the selected date, final price in USD, cancellation deadline, eligibility and voucher instructions on Klook before paying. The aquarium’s official ticket page says its timed web tickets are generally sold on weekends and holidays, with some weekday sales during expected busy periods.

What to know

Photography, heat and a better visit

Klook’s current activity rules allow personal photography but prohibit flash, commercial photography and live broadcasting. Creators should contact the aquarium directly if the visit is for monetized or commercial production; buying an admission ticket does not itself provide filming permission.

Some major viewing areas are outdoors. In summer, arrive with water, sun protection and enough time to avoid rushing between programs. Check the day’s schedule first, then move through the exhibition in a way that avoids repeated trips between floors and buildings.
